Myrsini for a girl?

Is Myrsini too mouthful for the UK?
It's a Greek name and I'm Greek.
Do you like it or hate it? Any reasons she would be bullied or does it sound nice?

It is from a tree caled Myrsinia in Greek, not sure what it would be in English and I do not think it grows in the UK...

Oh that sounds nicer, unusual and pretty name

SueGeneris · 10/05/2015 06:03

I think it's lovely, especially given you are Greek. I like the sound and the meaning. I think the pronunciation wouldn't be difficult.

I knew an Efrosini, she was very proud of her name.

Thank you Purpledahlia

My initial thought was that it is a bit "too much" and difficult to spell etc, but it is growing on me! It's very pretty and the pronunciation doesn't seem too difficult. She will have to spell it out fairly often if she grows up in the UK but that's the case for many names these days.

Is it a popular name in Greece?

SanityClause · 10/05/2015 06:42

I thought it might be Greek.

It sounds very pretty, and most people soon get used to names that are less familiar to them.

Rosa · 10/05/2015 06:49

Unusual but not weird - as in 'oh thats an interesting pretty name' not OMG what have you called your child.?

confusedandemployed · 10/05/2015 06:54

I think it's lovely. Really pretty and unusual.

SoupDragon · 10/05/2015 06:58

Well, I managed to pronounce it correctly from the thread title so I don't think it's too much of a mouthful :)

LobsterQuadrille · 10/05/2015 07:01

Love it.

RolodexOfHate · 10/05/2015 07:19

It's a very beautiful name. I really like it.

One small thing - when I read the title I immediately thought 'Is that a Game of Thrones character?' Because of the similarity to Cersei and Arya in my head. But that is completely wrong of course, and I may be the only person to think that!

Guin1 · 10/05/2015 07:42

Very pretty and a nice meaning. I guessed the pronunciation correctly from the thread title.

Alwayswiththechords · 10/05/2015 07:58

It's a lovely and unusual name and at least there won't be many other Myrsini's in her class. It's pretty easy to pronounce and I can't think of any obvious reasons why other kids might bully her for it. If it has a significance to you op and you have a nice story to tell your daughter about why you chose the name then go for it.

The only slight negative I would say is that she will spend her whole life spelling it to people.

Alwayswiththechords · 10/05/2015 07:59

But then the spelling is the case for many other names and surnames so I wouldn't let it affect your decision too much

IvoryMadonna · 10/05/2015 19:11

I can't see anything in the name to inspire teasing.

Bullying is something else altogether, and it's not names that spark it off.

Snowflake15 · 10/05/2015 19:12

Lovely!

Snowflake15 · 10/05/2015 19:13

Fwiw I love having an unusual name that sparks a conversation about my heritage, and Myrsini is even better as it is pretty much pronounced how it looksSmile

Yarp · 10/05/2015 19:56

It's lovely

It might be pronounced M-er-see-nee at first though
