Is this name too cultish?

I've always loved the name Abel, Abe for short. Have you ever come across anyone called Abel who wasn't Amish, from a cult? And what line do you think any bullying would take at school?
Lastly, what names do you think work well with Abel either as a first or middle name?
Thank you so much!

When have you come across and Abel who was in a cult? I haven't. I like it but, I tend towards biblical names for my boys, even though we are totally agnostic.

I quite like it.

I think of Abel Tasman the Dutch explorer who discovers New Zealand (well, was the first European to see New Zealand), mapped Australia and sighted Fiji.

It doesn't make me think of a cult at all. Smile

I also think of SOA. They're the antithesis of Amish really!

I am not religious, in fact I am a committed atheist. However I feel bound to point out on their behalf that the Amish are not a cult they are just an extremely strict religious sect.

Name's OK.

On a slight sidetrack, I am constantly baffled by all the Cains in the world. Why on earth would you name your child after the first murderer????

Abel is fine.

I work with an Abel. He is 26, extremely handsome and very clever.

Love the name!

I know one Abel, I never thought of cults when we were introduced! Abe is lovely as a nickname, but this guy always gets called Abel.

It's a very biblical name, but not one I associate with any particular "cult" or religious sect. The Amish certainly don't have a monopoly on Old Testament names.

I like it. You won't come across any Amish in the UK Wink

I used to work with a guy called Abel. When people were trying to wind him up they called him dis-Abel.

I really like Abel Smile. I am a big fan of bible names in general (despite being atheist), but DH wouldn't accept any of them Sad. Not because they are name from the bible - just because they were a little "out there" for him.

The only possible name calling I can think of is unable or disable. I'm sure you could find a possibility for almost every name though if you tried hard enough!

Cult Confused Nope.

It's a fine name. Though I can well envisage jokes along the lines of being 'able' 'unable' etc etc I suppose

I like it, providing you can live with the Cain jokes
