I would love some honest opinions on these girls names

I have 2 children already, one with a very modern name and one with a very old fashioned name so I am open to anything. The names are:
Jessie
Sylvie
Heather
Beatrix
I also love Abbie and Aoife. Our second name is Cavanagh, (that is pronounced like Havana) and we are in Ireland so Beatrix would not be very common but I really like it, dh is very unsure about it.

All opinions welcome.

Beatrix or Aoife

Oops sorry did not read your post correctly Blush

Jessie - very cute although I believe Jessie is often used for a boy (at least in the US). Jessica is OK although I was bullied by one at primary school which puts me off.
Sylvie - lovely, and Sylvia is even lovelier. This is my favourite I think
Heather - nice. I also like Fern
Beatrix - really like this, also nns Bea & Trixie
Abbie - nice name if not very exciting
Aoife - I'm going to go against the grain and say I think this is a bit ugly (sorry)

The boy's name is spelled Jesse (no i) or at least it should be. I don't care for Jessie as a girl's name, it seems dowdy and old-fashioned.

Sylvie is pretty.

I like Beatrix, and Trixie is a wicked nn.

I don't like Heather or Aoife, and think Abbie is very dull.

Jessie- hmm, I really like Jess and Jessica, strangely I'm not keen on Jessie, though I love Jesse for a boy.

Sylvie- I like this, it's pretty.

Heather- not keen, not sure why, just doesn't do it for me.

Beatrix- I like Bea, the whole name I'm not mad keen on, but it's classic, solid name.

Abbie- it's OK, fine, just not wild about it.

Aoife- YES! LOVE this name. It's absolutely beautiful.

I like Beatrix (would be uncommon in Ireland!) and Heather is quite nice too. Not keen really on Sylvie and I always think Jessie is a boys name (although I know it can be unisex). Aoife is fine but if you're in Ireland it's pretty dull really. I went to school with numerous Aoifes in the 80's so it's become pretty average sounding to me. I'm always amused that names like Aoife, Niamh, Orla etc get people so excited on here. For me as an Irish person they're the equivalent of calling your child Sophie or Emma, absolutely fine but common and not very imaginative (sorry, I'm being very hard on the name Aoife which is a very normal name!). I guess it just feels very different to the other names you're suggesting since you're in Ireland. Abbie is fine too although I'd probably use it as a nn. And I think you're saying Cavanagh is the surname not a middle name as a few people seem to think...

Aoife is gorgeous, very pretty and defiantly my favourite.

I love Abigail as name but I find Abbie a bit naff on its own.

Sylvie and Beatrix are okay, just not to my taste.

Heather is awful, so 70s/80s and not in a good way.

Not keen on Jessie as a girls name, it reminds me of that god awful Disney show but love Jesse as a boys name.

Totality22 · 06/05/2015 10:02

Much, much, much prefer Beatrice to Beatrix.

OnlyLovers · 06/05/2015 10:06

I love Sylvie and Beatrix/Beatrice. Can take or leave the others.

Fibbertigibbet · 06/05/2015 10:09

Beatrix is very sweet. Love Sylvie too! Nothing awful in your list, but these are definitely my two favourites.

princessdave · 06/05/2015 15:47

Sylvie or Sylvia is lovely, Beatrix / Beatrice too.

Not keen on Jessie for a girl unless it's a nn. Jesse for a boy is nice though.

Thank you all so much. I have ruled out a few of them now and its so good to hear all your comments, this thread has been a great help.

I still like Beatrix but DH says its far too unusual for here.

With my two children the names I picked felt very right and stood out to me but I am not feeling that yet with any one name. I absolutely love the name Maybel but I didn't think it went with our second name at all, but when I read the shortlist I was sad that I had left it out.

If anyone has any other names they think might work then I would love to hear them too. Thanks again for all the feedback.
