This is my father's middle name (born pre-War) and always pronounced Ant-un-ee. His family were Northern, too. I always thought the AnTH-ony pron. with the 'th' was American?

You could always spell it without the 'h' to avoid any confusion!

AnTHony.

In Scotland, I wonder if other Scots say it with the TH?

AnTony

Antony is my brother's name. Why not just spell it without the h if you want to be sure of of pronunciation?

We've a couple of Anthonys in the family. All known as Tony.

It depends if they tell me their name is Antony or Anthony. But both are spelt the same.

Tranquilitybaby · 10/05/2015 23:55

Th

Otherwise it should be spelt Antony in my opinion

CointreauVersial · 10/05/2015 23:57

I have a brother, a BIL and a nephew all with that name, and it is pronounced ANTONY.

BackforGood · 11/05/2015 00:01

"AnnTunny", but spelt Anthony.

lottiegarbanzo · 11/05/2015 00:22

My perception is it's a class / regional thing. I think 'th' is working class 't' middle and upper.

drudgetrudy · 11/05/2015 10:28

Have heard both but would definitely sat An-Tony and not pronounce the "th" unless told differently.

timelyreminder · 11/05/2015 13:47

I think of AnTHony as an American pronounciation.

CointreauVersial · 11/05/2015 16:57

Funnily enough, the two Irish Anthonys in our family tend to pronounce their names "Ant-nee", with just the two syllables!
