What is Edith's little brother called?

DH and I are expecting a boy. Our 2yo DD is Edith, often called Edie.

We both want a name that is instantly recognisable, that people know how to spell, but that there (hopefully) won't be another one in his class at school. We like quite old-fashioned, 'boring' sort of names; but not popular/classic. So not Peter, Thomas, etc.

DS's surname will be really long, double barrelled with five syllables total, so we don't want more than 2 syllable first names really. Surname starts with an N so ideally the name shouldn't end with an N to avoid them running into each other. I'd also like to avoid a name starting with E.

We also need to like a diminutive of the name.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

My grandmother was an Edith and her little brother was a Harold.

My grandfather had a sister called Edith. Her brothers were George, Frederick, Thomas and Francis.

Just a quick update to let everyone know that Douglas was born last week. It is a very grown up name for such a tiny boy but it suits him down to the ground. He has been a mix of Doug, Dougie and Douglas so far. Thanks everyone for all your help! Smile
