Hi. My partner and I have randomly come across the name Eton (or Eaton) and really like it.
The thing is that we want a name that isn't too out there but think the name is strong and will still be taken seriously.
What are everyones thoughts?

Easton? Not sure how I feel about it but family member just called their boy that and looks like it might be up your alley.

TheNumberfaker · 30/04/2015 21:39

Hmm. Definitely go for it if your surname is 'Rifles'...

BathTangle · 30/04/2015 21:41

Both Eton and Eaton are schools (well, Eaton House) - used as names they both sound very American to me. Ethan is very popular - not a reason not to use it though if you like it. I think Eden sounds like a girls name.

I really like the "Etan, (Ay-tan)" a pp mentioned. I also know someone called Ayhan, which I think might be an Egyptian name - I don't know what it means but I really like it.

Eden Kane was not a girl.

timelyreminder · 30/04/2015 22:29

How about

Aidan
Aaron
Keaton
Tristan

TrollshaveLittleWillies · 30/04/2015 23:28

I'm not keen on Eton or Eaton. It makes me think of Eton Mess. Smile

TheBuskersDog · 30/04/2015 23:40

Eden Kane was not a girl.

It wasn't his real name either.

OK, you could use it for a boy, but everyone will expect him to be a girl if they see his name written down.

burgatroyd · 01/05/2015 05:06

I third Etan.
I'd think Eden was a girl.
Eton is always suffixed with mess in my filthy little mind.

Rosa · 01/05/2015 06:09

Heavens no both are terrible

AuntieStella · 01/05/2015 06:40

Eden is a traditional boys name.

It was only that 80s soap that used it on a girl (leading to a blip of others).

BitOfFun · 01/05/2015 12:18

Boy's or girl's name.

IsadoraQuagmire · 01/05/2015 13:10

Some woman on the last "16 and Pregnant" I watched named her son Eden...

MistyMeena · 01/05/2015 14:28

I have taught both male and female Edens.

MamaLazarou · 01/05/2015 14:36

Eton would have very negative connotations for many people, I'm afraid. Sorry.

Sbear22 · 01/05/2015 14:47

What about Étienne? Stephen in French

BitOfFun · 01/05/2015 15:10

It's alright if you're French.

HangingInAGruffaloStance · 01/05/2015 22:09

I've only ever known male Edens. Using it as a girls name is avert new thing.

wizzler · 01/05/2015 22:13

I think of Eton Mess... which is great if you are a dessert, but not great for a child !

NotInGuatemalaNowDrRopata · 01/05/2015 22:17

I met a Seton once

pinkje · 01/05/2015 22:17

How about Elton? and the spelling I've come across for a boy Eden was spelt Edhan.

TrollshaveLittleWillies · 01/05/2015 23:18

Oh, I love the name Étienne. (It's Afrikaans too)

Marcipex · 02/05/2015 18:09

I know one male and two female Edens.
