Hi guys what do you think of the name Cai- pronounced Kye. I wanted to spell it with the C as it's the Welsh spelling and he'll be born in Wales, then moving to England. It means happy/ rejoice in welsh...

Oh gosh, Spiderlight, really? But since the name Kay for girls has plummeted in popularity, maybe school wouldn't be too bad (though some of parents must know female Kays).

Cai is a very popular name in my area. It has many meanings in many languages, easy to say, simple but nice in my opinion. Unlike Rhys (for example), it can be easily pronounced in both Wales and England, without losing a connection to the former. In short, I think it's great.

I did live North-ish, very Welsh area. I'm away at the moment though (may not return, but that's life unfortunately). I've heard Cai/Kai on both sides of the border though, although Malakchi is new to me (looks like malarkey to me, or worse malu cachu ConfusedGrin).

Thank you, if we return it would prob be south east or south west wales :) Love Wales

Kai/Cai to me sounds like a person from Essex saying 'Kay'.

I like it OP.

My favourite boys' name of all time is Keir, which is weirdly more mumsnet-approved than very similar sounding Kai and Keiran. Keir Hardie was Scottish but was MP in Wales. I shan't be using it as dc2 is a girl but still love it.
