Daisy or Poppy?

After much deliberation we have narrowed it down to two girls names. I prefer Daisy and Dp prefers Poppy. What do you think? Are there any horrible connotations that I haven't thought about?

I prefer Poppy too, sorry!

stormyboots · 23/04/2015 19:44

I much prefer Daisy, although i really dislike the name when it is hyphenated which unfortunately seems pretty standard practice at the moment.
imo the name is pretty enough without tacking on another 'pretty' name

Daffodilliesanddaisies · 23/04/2015 20:14

It won't be hyphenated I've vetoed that.

Sorry, definite for Poppy

jackandjilly · 23/04/2015 20:41

I have a poppy

Allthatnonsense · 23/04/2015 20:42

What about something more unusual?

Magnolia - nn Nolly
Miri
Aster

nameberry.com and britishbabynames.com have some great floral lists.

Flora is lovely.

scarletforya · 23/04/2015 20:50

Poppy

AndWhenYouGetThere · 23/04/2015 20:52

Marguerite nn Daisy
Or Penelope nn Poppy?

I have a Poppy and am expecting DD2 shortly - we considered Daisy for her but DH thinks it is name for a cow (of the animal variety, I never knew cows had names but there you go) whereas I think two flowery names is a little bit OTT and twee so we have ruled Daisy out. Both lovely names though!!

lovelychops · 23/04/2015 21:45

Really can't stand the argument on here that an old English name like Poppy, is 'cute' or 'barbie'.
Names don't have an expiration date, they grow with the child.
Both lovely names.

sweetpeame · 23/04/2015 22:11

I like both but prefer Daisy! I was keen on this for DD when she was born but DH vetoed. She has another flower name though Grin

pootlebug · 23/04/2015 22:13

I have friends who have 2 daughters…Daisy and Poppy…

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 23/04/2015 23:25

I have a Poppy.

Daisy was also on our shortlist - along with Ivy, Iris, Violet & Lily Grin.

We went with Poppy as it was the one name I had loved since childhood. Our DS1 also has the name I picked out for a boy when I was about 12 Wink.

Either is great though. We had it down to two also - DH preferring one name & me preferring Poppy. As it turns out her best friend has the name DH preferred, so I'm very glad we went with Poppy!

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 23/04/2015 23:28

Also, how on earth do you get Daisy from Marguerite? Confused

What have I missed?

Marguerite is the French word for daisy.

squoosh · 23/04/2015 23:47

If I had to pick from the two I'd definitely go with Daisy. Poppy seems much more of a recent fad.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 23/04/2015 23:48

Ah, thank you Squoosh. I thought I must have missed something Grin.

squoosh · 23/04/2015 23:50

Subtle maddieshae!

You should re-design your website though, it looks like something from 1998. As for the furniture........

DramaAlpaca · 23/04/2015 23:59

Daisy

Not really a fan of either of them, but of the two I prefer Daisy.

Wink nice bit of advertising, maddieshae.

Daffodilliesanddaisies · 24/04/2015 06:00

Definetly can't call the baby Magnolia, Dp is a decorator and hates the colour.

I prefer Poppy, but both lovely names.

Rhubarbgarden · 24/04/2015 11:00

Daisy. A bit more elegant.

KoalaDownUnder · 24/04/2015 12:28

Daisy. By a mile.

achoo · 24/04/2015 12:31

I have a Daisy but I was torn between Daisy and Poppy as well.
