so im having a little girl in august and decided on the name mae norma (both are family names) i posted this morning about how to spell mae and mentioned that her middle name was going to be norma and everyone that commented hates it and im panicing Sad
i did consider norma mae as suggested on my other post but mae is such a common middle name i think its getting a bit naff.
my 16 month old is rose margaret which i love and i was thinking they go together with out being to matchy.

Go for Norma as a middle name. All my DCs have middle names and they are never used even in anger Smile. As long as Mae goes with your surname it'll be fine.

Have you talked to your Nan about the name? I only ask this because whilst it's a lovely gesture, perhaps your man might have another suggestion?

A dear relative of mine is named Norma. She detests her name, and would certainly never wish it on a baby. She'd love to have had a pretty, girly name. Because of this I guess my opinion is biased, but I rely don't like Norma as a name.

Perhaps asking your Nan to help choose a name that is pretty and timeless might be a better tribute?

Thank you all I feel much better , we have a 3 syllable surname so I think it flows ok when it's said all together and I wasn't intending on it being a double barrel name so she'll be know as Mae

People are just used to hearing Mae in the context of a middle name. It's rarely used as a first name. I like Mae Norma - stick to your guns!
