Initials CJD do you immediately think of mad cow disease?

My husband thinks I'm being ridiculous but I am reluctant to use the names we like with these initials because of Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease.

By the time any child born now is old enough to make those jokes, memories of CJD will be all but forgotten. I'm nearly 30 and can hardly remember it myself.

Besides all of that I don't think initials are that big of a thing really! I've never really thought about mine, and never discussed anyone else's.

Hobby2014 · 23/04/2015 15:19

No. I'm 25. No idea what the initials are!

Drinkstoomuchcoffee · 23/04/2015 15:21

Yes!

KANGAD · 23/04/2015 20:34

Oh this is hard! I really like the names and husband doesn't want more than one middle name but I think it will bug me!

I also agree that I don't really think of initials that much (Except when choosing baby names!)

Yes, but I don't often look at people's names and immediately translate that into what their initials spell iykwim.

museumum · 23/04/2015 20:45

Yes but unless you're really into monogrammed hankies or luggage or whatever then I am not sure where you'd ever see your three initials like that?

hrhlisa · 23/04/2015 20:54

Nope not at all. And v.unlikely any peers would as they grow up. If you like the name that's all that matters. Alternatively you could add an extra middle name if it bothers you...I have 3 middle names because my mum couldn't decide!

Bowlersarm · 23/04/2015 20:57

Nope.

Doje · 23/04/2015 21:14

Yep. And my GCSE maths teacher who also had those initials. I'd be more scared of the latter if I was you.

Belazu84 · 24/04/2015 09:10

Really doesn't matter. It might cross my mind fleetingly. The next generation won't think of it.

wanderings · 24/04/2015 09:20

I think it might be a sufficiently long time ago for it not to matter too much now. Although I do remember the CJD outbreak, if the thread had been titled "is CJD an unfortunate set of initials?", I might struggle to remember why.

However, if the initials were AIBU or LTB, I would have to put my foot down. Wink

LittleIda · 24/04/2015 14:42

Yes

Sparkythepiano · 24/04/2015 14:54

Yes

Dumbledoresgirl · 24/04/2015 14:59

Yes.

But does it matter? No. I scarcely recognise my initials, or those of my immediate family, when I see them out of context, eg on a car numberplate. Assuming the D is your surname, the person would be known as CJ Draper (or whatever), not CJD.

Blahia · 24/04/2015 21:20

Yes... I do, sorry. But how often do you use your initials? I know I never ever do, so it might not matter.

SoldierBear · 24/04/2015 23:44

Yes.

Quasilulu · 24/04/2015 23:56

If it bothers you so much can't you flip the first and middle name?
