I love this, but is it a cow's name?! Thoughts?

Clover Carr. Lovely. And Clo is a nice nickname too.

LemonYellowSun · 22/04/2015 20:25

I knew someone called Clover so I don't think of a cow. There was an athlete who spelt it Clova

FelixFelix · 22/04/2015 20:28

I love it. I don't think of a cow when I hear it.

AwfulBeryl · 22/04/2015 20:31

I really like it and thought of Clover Carr. I don't think the cows name thing is an issue, but then one of my poor dts has a dogs name, so what do I know

Rhubarbgarden · 22/04/2015 20:53

Nicki there is a Clover in Watership Down, but she's one of the hutch rabbits they rescue from the farm, not the creepy warren rabbit.

squoosh · 22/04/2015 21:18

I definitely think 'cow'.

EthethethethChrisWaddle · 22/04/2015 21:42

I love it - I loved the What Katy Did books so it reminds me of them.

StupidBloodyKindle · 22/04/2015 21:55

Clover butter and Flora margarine Grin Joyous.
Please do it OP have a second girl and call them Clover and Flora...gawan gawan gawan, that would be fabulous just to see people's faces.
Clo is a nice nn but for God's sake do not let her do German or go to Germany unless you want everyone to think you are naming her after a toilet. Klo means loo here. That said,Lou exists in the UK and no one seems to take the piss.
Chloe? Briony? Rowan? Posy?

NickiFury · 22/04/2015 22:14

Yes you're right Rhubarb I knew there was a Clover in there somewhere Smile

ThreeBeanRap · 22/04/2015 22:24

I do like Chloe, I also quite like Clodagh, but of the three I think Clover wins for me. Good to see not everyone is against it as I had anticipated more 'what are you thinking' comments! Saying it out loud now at home to see if it works...

I think nice for a baby but an adult? I'm not sure.

AlmaMartyr · 22/04/2015 22:33

Clover is a fab name, I really wanted it but didn't get to use it. Have made DH promise that any 3rd child (highly unlikely) will be called Clover.

I think of Clover Carr. The 'cow' association always baffles me given how many Daisys there are around.

NunoBettencourt · 22/04/2015 22:35

I had a cow called Clover when I was younger. She was awesome. And then came Clover 2 which was her daughter. So yep, It's definitely a cow name for me. But a lovely cow name if that helps?

SanityClause · 22/04/2015 22:37

Cow.

But a shortened version of my name was often given to dogs, where I lived as a child. And I survived!

MrsBungle · 22/04/2015 22:40

I too think cow and then butter. Clodagh is a nice name.

SoldierBear · 22/04/2015 22:46

I love it.

EagleRay · 22/04/2015 22:50

One of my fave pics of DD is of her in Tesco pointing at the butter with her name on Smile

We had plenty of not so nice comments before we officially named her about dairy products, cows etc, but then as with most names I think, nothing but polite comments when it was made official.

DD pronounces it 'Cwawvah', bless her

TempsPerdu · 22/04/2015 22:54

Really like it. Thought of Clover Carr. Not sure why Daisy is always deemed to be fine, while Clover is dismissed as a 'cow's name' (then again I also love Rufus, which is apparently a dog's name, and Tabitha, which is only acceptable for cats).

squoosh · 22/04/2015 22:59

I don't associate Daisy with cows as it's always been quite a widely used girls name. Whereas I've never met or heard of a human Clover before. Just the mooing kind.

DramaAlpaca · 22/04/2015 23:03

I think of What Katy Did, and I've always liked the name.

Not one I'd be brave enough to use, though.

EugenesAxe · 22/04/2015 23:19

Cowslip was the creep I think. Also thought 'rabbit' instantly because of Rhubarb's aforementioned hutch rabbit. I think she mated with Bigwig, so she must have been half decent, for a rabbit.

ThreeBeanRap · 22/04/2015 23:38

It seems polarising! I do love it...not sure DH is convinced though so that may put a stop to it anyway! eagleray I think we'd get similar grief from friends and parents beforehand but as you say once it's official they have to like it or lump it really.

Anjou · 23/04/2015 04:36

I want to like it. It's a pretty word that I associate with ... well.. clover. Meadows and stuff. I don't get the cow reference at all (Daisy in the other hand ..).

When it comes to Clover as a name though, I just keep thinking of it as a hybrid of Clovis and Grover. Confused Chloe is lovely?

StupidFlanders · 23/04/2015 05:07

This topic comes up regularly. It's always the same responses. I had a Clover. It seemed lucky to me. It never occurred to me that anyone would care enough to hate it!

Tattiesthroughthebree · 23/04/2015 07:32

Another one whose first thought is Katy's sister. I love it, though wouldn't have used it myself.
