Initials EAR or have 2 middle names?

DH and I like the name Ethan and I want the middle name to be Andrew after my dad. Problem is our surname begins with R making the initials EAR!

Without sounding cruel my DH doesn't have the smallest of ears so if baby inherits those I'm worried other kids might pick up on the initials...

Do you think it would be better to add another middle name? Or is it silly to have 2 middle names? We're struggling to think of another first name we like!

It's not something I'd think important. He doesn't have to use all his initials. Anyway, why worry about it now? Wait and see. He'll probably have unremarkable ears.

I vote for adding another middle name.

Guin1 · 22/04/2015 15:12

I think it's fine as it is and flows nicely.

Bowlersarm · 22/04/2015 15:13

I'd add another middle name.

PeppermintCrayon · 22/04/2015 15:14

I wouldn't. I'm always perplexed when people on MN say initials and middle names don't matter.

What about Andrew Ethan, known as Ethan?

Sweets27 · 22/04/2015 16:33

My initials are EAR! Not my parents' choice, my maiden name was different. It made me giggle when I realised it would spell EAR after I got married, but frankly no one notices or cares. Another middle name is a good idea though.

WoweeZowee · 22/04/2015 16:38

I don't think it matters. For the most part if you ever need to use just your initials you'd use your first and last name anyway.

Plus, there are worse body parts it could be Grin

DD1's initials are ARM which we never even noticed until an uncle pointed it out after she was born. No one else has noticed or commented.

LemonYellowSun · 22/04/2015 16:40

I wouldnt, personally

In my experience kids like it when their initials spell something, especially if it's something they can draw. It becomes a signature or tag.

mammmamia · 22/04/2015 20:54

I would go for another middle name. No harm in that surely?

Allthatnonsense · 22/04/2015 21:02

Switch the names around or add a middle name.

leccybill · 22/04/2015 21:09

It will probably never come up. DD's initials are BAA, I've never seen it written anywhere and she's 5.

Love the name Ethan, it was on our boys list, along with Nathan.

princessvikki · 23/04/2015 09:54

I don't think initals matter to much, mine changed to VD when I got married which my mum found hillarious but nobody else has ever noticed

Orangeisthenewbanana · 23/04/2015 09:57

We're having a similar issue, except initials would be ARS Confused. Think we will looking for a second middle name! EAR is not bad, but if you think it will bother you, another middle name is an easy way to get round it.
