Dh has suggested this, I don't hate it but wondered what the general feeling was towards this name..... 34 weeks now and I'm done thinking about this now!
Others in the running are

Sidney
Rupert
Henry
Hugo
Francis ( frank)
Mn probably David or something wild like bear or huck :)

Hector is lovely. As is Hugo.

timelyreminder · 20/04/2015 20:53

I like Henry and Sidney, and quite like Hector and Hugo. Not keen on Rupert or Francis/Frank.

Smugnogplease · 20/04/2015 21:12

Thanks for replies, I'm glad it's a bit of a marmite name as hopefully that means it won't explode in the rankings. DD is C laudia, I think they sound nice together, my other 2 are older so less likely to be shouted out in the park together. We have very common S surname, any middle name suggestions?

Hector is fab, my second faves from you list are Sidney and Hugo. Dislike Francis.

Hector James

Hector Ferdinand

Hector Finn

Hector Sidney

Hector reminds of the middle aged guy from the book 'The Slap' who was a cokehead and who wanted to cheat on his wife with a teenage girl.

squoosh · 20/04/2015 22:10

I like it.

I'm in Scotland and know a couple of cool 30something Hectors.

FluffyTheEvilOne · 20/04/2015 22:25

It does make me think of the verb 'to hector', as mentioned upthread.

I like Hugo, Henry, and Francis, but not Frank.

Guin1 · 21/04/2015 06:30

Really like Hector. Strong and unusual, with great history. I don't ever hear it used as a verb nowadays, but that may be a local thing. Second choice would be Henry.

How many syllables in your surname? If it's just one, then I think a mn with 2 or more syllables flows best, whereas a short mn works well with a longer surname.

Tattiesthroughthebree · 21/04/2015 12:04

It was on our shortlist for DC3. If we'd used it, he would have been Hector James.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 21/04/2015 13:17

Post Breaking Bad it now means Hector Salamanca to me - but as long as he doesn't have a wee bell it will be fine :o

albertcampionscat · 21/04/2015 21:30

Hector is the worst name ever. Far, far worse than Nigel. Francis (nn Frank) is ace.

squoosh · 21/04/2015 21:35

No WAY is it worse than Nigel! With a cool haircut and some fancy threads a Hector can become utterly cool. Whereas someone called Nigel will always be far too Nigel-y.

I could never disrobe for a Nigel.

SanctimoniousItches · 21/04/2015 22:13

I prefer Nigel. Hector means nag.

I know a very nice Nigel

SanctimoniousItches · 21/04/2015 22:14

lol at ektore salla mankAH

thatsn0tmyname · 21/04/2015 22:15

I don't think he would thank you when he's older.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 21/04/2015 22:17

Sancti :o - is it just me that now sees a toddler on a trike peddling round and round and dinging his wee bell and glaring at passers by....

Rivercam · 21/04/2015 22:25

Love Hector.

Don't like Henry on your list but the other names are great - unusual but not outrageous. Ie. Most people are able to spell and pronounce them.

Other similar names:
Harris
Gilbert
Christopher (kit)
Brett
Douglas
Hamish

Thanks for more fab suggestions , the BB link actually makes me like it more, we loved that show!

OneMagnumisneverenough · 21/04/2015 23:21

I loved it too :)

May I suggest Walter, Jesse, Saul , Skinny Pete or Badger or Gus? With DS2s favourite Mike as a middle name? But please not Brock.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 21/04/2015 23:22

oh, and not Flynn either!

And also just noticed Henry on the list - you have to shorten that to Hank!

OneMagnumisneverenough · 21/04/2015 23:23

so many good characters too few children to name :(

CadieAgain · 21/04/2015 23:24

Grin at toddler Tio Salamanca on his tricycle!

Letmeeatcakecakecake · 24/04/2015 11:29

Hector is my favourite boys name! (Vetoed by my fiancé though!)

Smugnogplease · 24/04/2015 17:33

Thanks.... It's definitely growing on me but I can imagine the cats bum faces of relatives if we are brave enough to go for it!

Henry is a great, classic name.
