Still stuck for names so please bear with me. What's your thoughts on this?

God no, hinge and brackett, google them if you haven't heard of them, hideous

ThursdayLast · 21/04/2015 17:18

Thanks Smile

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 21/04/2015 17:22

I thought Hinge & Bracket/ Chalet School too but nobody under 40 is going to get those references.

squoosh · 21/04/2015 17:23

I had to google Hinge & Brackett as I'd never heard of them. Weird that they so completely passed me by.

florascotia · 21/04/2015 18:14

Squoosh - Hinge and Bracket were a camp but musically well-educated act. Think (sub) Round the Horne combined with a knowledge of middle-class music from late Victorian times to the eve of WWII. The musical jokes were sometimes clever; the gender-based satire was too broad brushed, IMHO.

On the other hand, if you are of a certain vintage (as I am) the two 'ladies' were undeniably reminiscent of certain very grand, academic, secondary school teachers....

timelyreminder · 21/04/2015 18:17

Hinge & Bracket. I've never heard the name anywhere else.

How about Evelina?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 21/04/2015 18:20

Empress, I thought Chalet School and I'm 31! Never heard of Hinge and Bracket, though.

DoctorLawn · 21/04/2015 18:26

I think of Mrs Cake - one of Terry Pratchett's characters.

I think it's an OK name - not my personal taste but better than many.

Tattiesthroughthebree · 21/04/2015 21:53

You can't go wrong with a Chalet School name (unless it's Eustacia or Gay).

niceandwarm · 21/04/2015 22:06

Yes, first thought was Hinge and Bracket. Not good.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 21/04/2015 22:16

TooExtra Grin Chalet School is fine though. Has anyone under 40. Said Hinge & Bracket?

squoosh · 21/04/2015 22:35

I've just watched some Hinge & Brackett on youtube. A bit like French and Saunders as written by Oscar Wilde. I can certainly see where David Walliams got the idea for his 'ladies' sketch!

Millymollymama · 21/04/2015 23:22

Dr Evadne Hinge and Dame Hilda Bracket were the stage names of two gentlemen who dressed as ladies. They were a comedy double act in the 50s and 60s and possibly before that. Genteel and mild comedy. A bit like Joyce Grenfell x 2! Now who is Joyce Grenfell I hear you ask......?

scarletforya · 21/04/2015 23:27

Ee-vad-nay?
Ee-vad-nee?

It sounds awkward, too many consonants.

squoosh · 21/04/2015 23:29

Oh I love Joyce Grenfell Milly!

Millymollymama · 21/04/2015 23:41

squoosh - I agree! An era of genteel comedy. Lots of "new" comedy is old comedy recycled! So should the baby be Joyce?

squoosh · 21/04/2015 23:45

Rather! I think Joyce would be a wizard name for the baby.

so what about Evadne?
MishMooshAndMogwai · 21/04/2015 23:47

The more I read it the more I like it :)

I don't think either reference really matters do they? In the real world I don't think all that many people would make the asossiation nowadays :)

SycamoreMum · 21/04/2015 23:48

Evangeline
Evangelynn
Evelyn

IvoryMadonna · 22/04/2015 00:56

I don't like it, it's too clunky for me. It doesn't flow nicely.

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 22/04/2015 01:36

Another under-40 who came on to say "Chalet School" ...

TheNewStatesman · 22/04/2015 04:57

I like it! I don't think it's old lady at all.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 23/04/2015 17:47

Tatties, or Lucinda Muriel!

Whatisaweekend · 23/04/2015 17:54

Hinge and Bracket. Def an old lady name (and trying too hard to be old lady chic if you see what I mean).

SylvaniansAtEase · 25/04/2015 00:02

No.

It's trying very hard at the old-lady chic, but in the end it's simply YET ANOTHER name starting with 'Ev' whose unfortunate owner will be known as Evie/Eve for short. To add to the other approx. 15 million of them born over the last 10 years.

'Oh but it's short for Evadne'
'Oh rilly?'
