Heathcliff?

It would be shortened to either Heath or Cliff for everyday use... what do you think? Is it ridiculously Wuthering Heights-tinged? We have a Vivienne and a Philippa already (Pip and Vivi). Really struggling for a boys name that DH reckons is 'masculine' enough (whatever THAT means) and that I don't feel is either too all-American-boy sounding ( Chase, Trent, etc... eew).

The only name we can really agree on is Felix, which I do like, but I'd like to have options!

Don't do it

MuttonCadet · 17/04/2015 17:21

I wouldn't, it's very Wuthering Heights and he's an abuser.

MuttonCadet · 17/04/2015 17:22

Felix is lovely.

TheWhiteRoad · 17/04/2015 17:23

Yes it's rediculously Wuthering Heights. Don't do it. Heath is ok though.

FunkyPeacock · 17/04/2015 17:24

I'm afraid it's a name I would find extremely difficult to disassociate with Wuthering Heights - and Heathcliffe really isnt a very pleasant character!

Linguaphile · 17/04/2015 17:29

Oh dear, yes, I did wonder if that might be the case. Sigh. Ah well, moving on then.

I'd say no. Heath on its own? Please, not Cliff! Felix is a nice name.

thatstoast · 17/04/2015 17:33

What about Edgar?

ItsAllKickingOffPru · 17/04/2015 17:37

No. It's defined so closely with one literary character. And Cliff is dire.

Byron?

Archer26 · 17/04/2015 17:43

We're strongly considering Heath for our baby due next week (hopefully!). DH turned nose up at heathcliff but really likes Heath. It's a strong name. Go for it!

Ilovewheelychairs · 17/04/2015 19:55

My friend's little boy is named Heathcliff. It's generally shortened to Heath. I thought it was a ridiculous name when she first announced it, but to be honest it is now just him! If you like it, go for it!

Allthatnonsense · 17/04/2015 23:09

Heathcliff is a brute and bully. Edgar is the stoic one!

MrsBungle · 17/04/2015 23:12

Heath is nice cliff is bloody awful
Heathcliff is far too "wuthering heights"

squoosh · 17/04/2015 23:26

Heath on its own I love.

Heathcliff is awful. Used by people who haven't read the book and think 'oh isn't Heathcliff a great romantic hero like Mr Darcy or something? Let's go with that'.

Variousrandomthings · 18/04/2015 06:28

I like Heathcliff and Heath

Variousrandomthings · 18/04/2015 06:29

You could always introduce him to everyone as Heath but have heathcliffe on the certificate

Rosa · 18/04/2015 06:49

Terrible - poor child at school and when he gets older .

3littlerabbits · 18/04/2015 07:00

.... It's me it's Cathy I've come home nowowowow.....

Actually quite like it! Heath is cool.

Rhubarbgarden · 18/04/2015 09:41

I used to go out with a Heathcliff. It suited him, but he found it tremendously embarrassing.

FishCanFly · 20/04/2015 09:57

We have Heath. So i love the name :)
Heathcliff is nice, but no point if its only in documents.
Cliff is awful.

SylvaniansAtEase · 20/04/2015 10:43

Heathcliff no, Heath very much yes.

Go for Heath!
