What do you reckon?

I think I like Celia the most.

Although it's not on your list, I also like Cicely.

However having read what you said about your name sounding a bit like 'Tarmac' I think Celia and Cecelia would not work. The IA ending would sound like 'your'.

My dd (13) is Celia. We have a 2 syllable surname ending in an ee sound. It is a lovely name, we think. She is the only one in her school apart from a teacher!

BabyNeedsChocolate · 20/04/2015 08:29

I think they're all lovely but my favourite is Cecily.

Cecilia makes me think of the Simon & Garfunkel song (which came out long before I was born!) and Celia of the Jonathan Swift poem.

Celia sounds like someone slightly older to me - not sure of the data but I know more Celias in their thirties and up, while the Cecilies and Cecilias I know tend to be younger.

Ludways · 20/04/2015 08:34

I know a Cecily, she gets CeCe.

Allalonenow · 20/04/2015 08:42

My favourite is Cecily, it's pretty yet strong.

I like Cecilia too, though not quite as much, and Celia is my least favourite, as it doesn't seem to have much flow or grace to the sound.

The Jonathon Swift Celia poem is awful but the Ben Jonson one is fab. Apart from the Shakespearean connection we also thought about the actor Celia Jonson in 'Brief Encounter.' I remember saying to my mother in the post birth haze- 'you know the movie- they were on a train. They were sad.'

CruCru · 21/04/2015 19:26

I love Cecilia.

nemno · 21/04/2015 19:33

Recently my dad discovered he'd been pronouncing his friend Cecilia's name wrongly as he was using Ce-see-lia (like the song) and she really is Ce-si-lia. I think the latter is the traditional UK one. Which are you thinking?

albertcampionscat · 21/04/2015 21:28

Love all three. Cecily probably loveliest.

TheNewStatesman · 22/04/2015 04:59

I have a Cecile--I love it and it is unusual without being too weird.

The meaning "blind" is a bit oddbut I like to think of it as blind in the sense of impartial/unprejudicedlike the blindfolded figure representing justice.

Cecily is nice too. I find Cecilia a bit frilly.

afink · 22/04/2015 10:51

Love Celia, but the others always sound very fussy to me.

mrstowers · 22/04/2015 22:57

I vote for Cecily/Cicely. Love it.

Yika · 22/04/2015 23:39

Celia is the nicest. Elegant, classy, timeless.

Orangeisthenewbanana · 23/04/2015 09:59

I love Cecily

wesH · 24/04/2015 12:53

Celia is my favourite, definitely!

morethanpotatoprints · 24/04/2015 12:56

cecilia is the patron saint of music, so she would have to be musical.
A beautiful name but dds friend hates people singing the song "cecilia, you're breaking my heart" because everyone she meets sings it Grin

BlueKarou · 24/04/2015 12:58

I really like all three.

Cecilia would make me think of the song though.

I think if I had to pick a favourite it would be Cecily.

kate113855 · 25/04/2015 21:52

I like Cecilia. It became one of my favourite names after reading Atonement by Ian McEwan!
