Alliterative names (R)

Our surname is the same as a famous 80s agony aunt/her present day food critic son.

We're expecting a baby boy in August and, although we wanted a boy and are super happy, we're really struggling with names.

We had decided on Eddie, but we've gone off it a bit. I think it's the 'ie' sound on the end. Both husband and I like alliterative names (ie. same first/last initial) because they're a bit super-heroesque and we're both massive nerds!

I'd mentioned that I liked Rufus and DH conceded last night that it was growing on him, more so than Eddie, because of the same initials thing.

I'm now looking for other boy names, preferably 2 syllable, beginning with 'R' as this seems to be the winning formula.

So far I've suggested Riley and Ruben but DH doesn't like them. Any other cool boy names which start with R, in case he changes his mind about Rufus!? (I hope not!)

Thanks!

I think Eddie R is the name of a member of Crowded House. Rings a bell anyway.

I like Rupert and River! Grin

Rowan was the preferred name had he been a she.

Rufus is still my fave though. Think DH is warming to it partly because Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure was on over the weekend and Rufus IS cool! Grin

I'll just have to keep dropping subtle hints to make sure he doesn't backtrack again...he's convinced that our son is going to be a rock star (he's already sorted him drum and guitar lessons with my brother who's in a band) so wants a 'cool' name! Men and their weird priorities, eh...? Confused

OP personally I prefer the 'rock star test' to the usual 'high court judge test'.

Skeppers · 13/04/2015 12:27

Oooh, Ripley is cool! Like from 'Alien'! Smile

Oh god yes, the rock star test is the only one I'm interested in! High court what? Blah. Yawn! Wink

Rockstar names beginning with R?

Ringo (Star)
R (Kelly) sorry had to be done
Ray (Davies)
Lots and lots of Ricks, Ryans (yes even with your surname) and Roberts

It doesn't have to be 'out there' to be rockstar. In fact I think its the quite the opposite. I mean David Bowie isn't exactly inspired, considering this was AFTER he changed his SURNAME. I think rockstar names are definitely more about the surname tbh and if you've got a shit one theres not a great deal you can do about it. You've got a half decent one though. However, you don't get too many rock stars with long first names - if they do they abbreviate. So no more than 2 syllables is preferable.

Joan0fArk · 13/04/2015 13:09

I can't think what your sur name might be Confused

I like Robbie and Richie. They're classic but not too stiff.

Roscoe and Rocco are great too and the vowel at the end would make it flow in to the sur name.

One of my children has an alliterative name. I think it sounds good but my mum said it sounded like somebody choking on a fish bone.

RedToothBrush · 13/04/2015 13:10

Joan, he's some times a judge on masterchef.

Beardy.

squoosh · 13/04/2015 13:11

His mum helped people whose problems were causing them payne(r).

Skeppers · 13/04/2015 15:29

Ha! Don't. It makes it worse that I actually share the same first name as her too! Blush

Have completely outed myself there, but I never post anything too embarrassing on here and everyone knows I'm upduffed anyways!

Ramone and Rigby are both excellent! Grin

...what does the 'R' in 'R Kelly' stand for...? Hmm

OP posts:
Sophronia · 13/04/2015 15:41

R Kelly's first name is Robert Grin

squoosh · 13/04/2015 15:44

Do people constantly say to you 'oh you have the same name as XXX XXXX'?

Joan0fArk · 13/04/2015 16:12

Ah, I've figured it out. I used to love her. Bloody sensible she was.

IvoryMadonna · 13/04/2015 17:02

Roland

Skeppers · 13/04/2015 17:32

Yeah, unfortunately we only share a name, not levels of common sense!

I sometimes get jokes about it but not so much from the young 'uns who don't seem to know who she was. I changed my email avatar at work to a picture of her which in resplendent 80s glory; we all thought was funny, but 'the management' made me change it back... Sad
