Dc3 due in 3 weeks & still struggling to agree on names. This is a much longed for 3rd baba which we had pretty much given up hope on as we have been ttc for 6 years (& I'm the ripe old age of 43!)
Anyway our boy option has always pretty much been set on Edward (with the nn Ted/Teddy) but need opinions on the middle name :
Edward Daniel / Teddy Daniel
Edward Alexander /Teddy Alexander(too much of a mouthful??)
Edward Albert / Teddy Albert
Edward Tyler / Teddy Tyler (too American??)
( btw our surname starts with a C & is 1syllable)
But DH has recently thrown in the curveball name of Dexter which I do like (as we already have a Max & I think they go well together) but cannot think of a middle name for it at all.
Can any of u lovely peeps help us out with any suggestions & also give your opinions on the middle name for Edward??
Then it's onto girls names which we have whittled down to:
Isabella Skye
Georgia Skye
Betsy Skye
Which do you think sounds better?
I'd really appreciate any suggestions!

I don't think you need to try out the middle name with teddy just with Edward, ie hard to see context in which you would ever use that combination. Middle name only used in formal context.

I like Edward Albert best. I like Isabella, think georgia is ok and do not like betsy, although do like Elizabeth.

Sophronia · 10/04/2015 12:59

Edward is much nicer than Dexter, which just reminds me of the TV show and will be quite faddy I think. I like Edward Alexander a lot, and Edward Daniel is nice too.

I like Isabella Skye best from the girls list. I prefer Betsy as a nickname, and Georgia Skye sounds too much like a phrase (i.e. the sky in Georgia)

Belazu84 · 10/04/2015 13:13

I'd go for Edward Alexander. Not keen on Dexter but might be a fun middle name? Edward Dexter sounds cool.
I like Georgia Skye. Isabella a bit too popular and Betsy a bit too cutesy.

Belazu84 · 10/04/2015 13:13

Ps congrats!

IvoryMadonna · 10/04/2015 13:41

All the names sound fine with Edward, although I wouldn't use Tyler unless it's a family surname. I would stick with Edward as it gives a boy/man more options.

Please do not give Betsy as a standalone name, it is not fair on a person to give just a nickname. If you don't like Elizabeth, Betsy could at a stretch be a pet name for Isabel which is a form of Elizabeth. I would favour Isabel or Isobel over the frillier Isabella.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 10/04/2015 13:57

I like Isabel, but not Isabella. I like Elizabeth with nickname Betsy bit think it's a bit twee as a given name.

Edward and Dexter are fab. Dexter Charles? Dexter George? I think it sits well with a traditional mn.

Sweets27 · 10/04/2015 14:02

I like Edward Albert Smile

Georgia Skye sounds like the sky above the state of Georgia. Otherwise Georgia is a lovely name, but I think Isabella Skye is nicer.

What about Edward Dexter?

Dexter George is nice too.

manicinsomniac · 10/04/2015 14:24

Edward Alexander and Isabella Skye are may favourites.

Middle names for Dexter: Antonio, Kai, Nathaniel, Alexander, Flynn, Jude

Congratulations.

cosmicglittergirl · 10/04/2015 14:39

Edward Alexander has a good ring to it.
Betsy is cute, I really like it, but I agree with pp that I'd think it was short for Elizabeth (which is a great name).
Otherwise Isabella is nice, but will get called Izzy? Or Bella?

thatdoreengirl · 10/04/2015 16:56

Thanks all. I agree that Betsy is a bit cutesy - I've always liked the name but now we are getting so close I've realised that it may not be right.... fine for a little girl but not so much for a grown adult, but i really don't like Elizabeth at all.
Sophronia - I see what you mean about Georgia Skye, but I like the fact that Georgia is quite a strong name, maybe I need to find another mn for Georgia?
Belazu94 - Edward Dexter was on our short list a couple of weeks ago - but didn't come out well on here at all - funny how it's different strokes for different folks isnt it?! I still 'sort of' like it but am still not 100% sure of it, thought id put it out there again & see what the response is!
We can't use Isabel/ Isobel as we have one in the family so opted for Isabella as it gives us both Izzy & Bella as mn's
Edward Alexander is a strong contender but it sounds very 'formal' & a bit of a mouthful against my other ds name which isn't so formal at all.
I really do appreciate all responses so far - keep them coming please! As well as other middle name ideas for Georgia.
ThanksSmile

Isabella is still Elizabeth in disguise Grin so you could still have Betsy as a pet name if it suited her.

OutragedFromLeeds · 10/04/2015 17:34

Edward is much nicer than Dexter.

I like Edward Alexander best from your list. Not keen on Tyler (Teddy Tyler sounds ridiculous!).

I like Georgia best from your girls names. Isabella is too popular and always sounds like a 'try hard' Isobel to me. Betsy is lovely, but only as a nn for Elizabeth or something else more formal. I'm not keen on Skye, but it's fine as a middle name.

Middle names for Georgia? I like Georgia Elizabeth (but I see you don't like Elizabeth Grin). Georgia Alice, Georgia Margot, Georgia Penelope, Georgia Betsy?

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 10/04/2015 17:36

If you can't use Isabel, is Isabella different enough? They're basically the same name. I'd be a bit careful of Bella as well if popularity bothers you. I know loads - Isabella, Arabella and Annabella.

Georgia is lovely. I think you need a consonant sound, or at least a strong sound, at the start of the middle name. Probably not to your taste, but something like Georgia Catherine flows I think.

Bowlersarm · 10/04/2015 17:43

Edward is so much nicer than Dexter. I like Edward Alexander, and if you are planning calling him Teddy/Ted then I don't think it matters whether it sounds formal.

Isabella is lovely, with nice nn options. Personally I don't like Betsy. I know you've said you don't like Elizabeth but it does have the advantage of loads of short names to chose from, she could be Betsy or when she gets older Libby, Eliza, Lizzie, Beth; such a versatile name.

Guin1 · 10/04/2015 18:06

Edward/Teddy is a great choice and much nicer than Dexter.
My favourite combo is Edward Albert.

Crossfitmyarse · 10/04/2015 18:13

Dexter is the name of the moment isn't it? I keep hearing it. It must be because of the TV because I never, ever heard it before that.

That's fine if you don't mind that your child has been named after a TV show character, which will always carbon date him somewhat….

Betsy Skye - they just don't work together

Georgia Skye works but I really don't like Georgia

Isabella Skye - doesn't really work and Isabella is really common now.

I'd pick Elizabeth Skye which works great, and call her Betsy which is short for Elizabeth. And Elizabeth is beautiful. Try to learn to love it. Grin
