Anna and Henrietta?

I have a DD called Anna - love the name as it's simple and timeless. Just found out DC2 is a DD2, who will be along in August. We're very excited to be having another girl, and I have started to like the name Henrietta. Any general thoughts on the name? Does it go with Anna? The 'a' endings are quite similar, but is Henrietta too frilly in comparison to simple Anna? Thanks in advance!

They go well

JugglingLife · 10/04/2015 09:12

It's a lovely name, be prepared for her to be called 'hen' though, my Henry is called it all of the time, I used to hate it but am now quietly resigned and slip up on occasion too.

Sophronia · 10/04/2015 09:59

I think they're lovely together, the name Henrietta should be more popular.

Leeds2 · 10/04/2015 10:09

I know a few Henriettas, and they are all called Hetty/Hettie.

squoosh · 10/04/2015 11:17

I think it's far too frilly in comparison. Anna is quite an international name so I don't have a preconceptions about who Anna is.

Henrietta on the other hand immediately conjures up an image of a 1980's Sloane Ranger.

applecatchers36 · 10/04/2015 11:19

Also agree that the vowel endings both sounding 'a' is a bit matchy, would be better with a different ending

SunnyBaudelaire · 10/04/2015 11:20

Henrietta sounds really 'sloany' tbh.
But Hettie is nice. Just as long as your surname is not Cake or Apple.

CarriMarie · 10/04/2015 11:25

Anna and Harriet go well, and could use Hattie nn.

sweetpeame · 10/04/2015 11:29

I think they sound nice together, they sound like sisters iykwim. Wouldn't worry about the "a" sounds at the end of both.

wigglesrock · 10/04/2015 12:10

Henrietta wouldn't be my name of choice, but I've 3 daughters (one of whom has the name of your eldest daughter) and all their names end in a. In fact two of their names end in the same two letters. I didn't even notice it until someone mentioned it on here Smile.

NadiaWadia · 10/04/2015 13:08

Anna is a beautiful, simple name. Henrietta isn't. (sorry) I don't think they go well together at all.

Something like Georgia or Alice or Martha or Clara would be nicer.

Juliet

GettingSaggyWithIt · 10/04/2015 13:43

You know Elsa is the way to go surelyGrin

Not keen on henrietta to be honest. Too many syllables, although Etta itself is lovely, and like Jemima, reminds me of a duck.

But I am relentlessly twee with matchy names and godawful taste so ignore me.

Anna and Lara sounds nice. Or Mia. Or Elsa!!!Grin so not Letting It Go

GettingSaggyWithIt · 10/04/2015 13:46

Sorry couldn't work out why it was reminding me of a duck not a hen. Turns out Henrietta was Howard the duck's mum.

squoosh · 10/04/2015 13:50

Duckface from Four Weddings and a Funeral was a Henrietta too wasn't she?

GettingSaggyWithIt · 10/04/2015 13:58

Ooh That could be it yes Star as I have seen that not howard but I am old, OP, so you can ignore me. Etta is nice but I have only evr heard of Etta James.

IvoryMadonna · 10/04/2015 16:20

Etta James was named Jamesetta after her father James. You can see why she abbreviated it.

aFirmGrip · 10/04/2015 21:03

I really don't like Henrietta, it's a sort of comedy name to me, like calling your DD Esmerelda or Gwendoline. Big old frumpy but cheerful Henrietta. Sorry!

Oh and the only one I know is called Hetty, which is hardly better. P

GettingSaggyWithIt · 10/04/2015 21:22

Don't like Gwendoline but love Rosalind.
Hetty just reminds me of Hetty Wainthrope investigates.
ivorymadonna Star I did not know that, yes I can see why.

But OP I am sorry if I come over as snarky. Am loathe to do but as long as it's not Hamble it shouldn't matter what the rest of us thinkSmile enjoy your new dd when she arrives. Flowers

AuntieUrsula · 11/04/2015 09:24

I think they go together fine - sound like something out of Jane Austen Smile. Henrietta is quite a mouthful though, so you might want to decide on a short form to use for everyday. We know a lovely Hetty (and she's the only one in the school).

dragdownthemoon · 11/04/2015 18:19

I love Henrietta! I like the nickname Etta. Anna and Etta are cute together. Or Hettie. Or Henri. All round Lovely name :)

Want2bSupermum · 11/04/2015 18:25

I have an Anna and if we have a 2nd dd I think we will go with Amy, Helen, Caroline or Brigitte (family name that I'm not too keen on!). We have a double last name so I would prefer Helen as its nice and short.
