Obviously we all have our own ideas and opinions so I won't be offended. But I'm interested in what others might think of these names:

Ray, Daniel (Dan), Jeffrey (Jeff)
Anna, Helen

Thanks

I like all of them except Ray. Jeffrey is awesome (although I'd probably spell it Geoffrey). I actually prefer Helena to Helen, but that might just be me(if you wanted to go 1970s I'd go for Elaine instead Smile).

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 09/04/2015 21:28

Not what you asked, I know, but I really like Geoffrey

MajesticWhine · 09/04/2015 21:29

They are all fine except Ray. Jeffrey is a bit left field, but quite nice. I love the name Daniel. Anna and Helen are nice names, possibly slightly boring. Raymond is slightly better than Ray, because at least it gives you options (but not much better to be honest)

PenguinsAreAce · 09/04/2015 21:30

Anna is great.

Helen will be popular soon.

BeaufortBelle · 09/04/2015 21:31

Louis is lovely but I don't think it goes with Dan.

Ray - no, it's sleazy in my opinion.
Jeffrey - as in Archer which again is sleazy imo and also my step father who is a boorish bigot

Helen and Anna are fine.

Louis was on our shortlist many years ago. So was Oscar. How about Ralph?

KeturahLee · 09/04/2015 21:34

Louis and Daniel are fine together.
Louis and Anna also nice.

Agree Helena is better than Helen, I can see Louis and Helena as siblings.

ragged · 09/04/2015 21:37

They are all fine by me & Ray is utterly fantastic.

Sophronia · 09/04/2015 21:45

I like Daniel, Anna and Helen.

coalscuttle · 09/04/2015 21:50

People will laugh if you name him Ray

IvoryMadonna · 09/04/2015 22:27

The only one I don't like is Jeff, never have liked Jeffrey or Geoffrey however it's spelt. Also it's a bit too much like Joffrey (who for those who don't know Game Of Thrones is an evil little psycho)

I do like Ray if you give it its full weight of Raymond. Fab Norman French name, makes me think of medieval romance and the Crusades and all that. A pan-European name (Spanish Ramon, Irish Redmond, etc)

Yarp · 09/04/2015 22:46

Love Ray. Like Eric, it has sort of become a bit cool

My best friend is Helen. It think it is a very classic, feminine, but not girly, name

Ana has a similar feel to that too

wattlegirl · 10/04/2015 02:37

Daniel - wonderful name and I personally think it is timeless.
Jeffrey/Jeff - I really like this too. In my opinion it is a good strong name and not much heard of or used these days. A definite "yes" from me.
Ray - I don't hate it - but I do not find it inspiring either.

Anna - is a really simple but pretty name in my humble opinion
Helen - again nothing awful about it - but just sort of bland to me.

Just a suggestion, why not couple Daniel & Jeffrey together. Either Daniel Jeffrey or Jeffrey Daniel go nicely together.

Crossfitmyarse · 10/04/2015 02:51

Daniel is so boring and common. It's the choice of someone with zero imagination.

Jeffrey is awful, but maybe that's just my age speaking. I am not ready to see babies called Jeffrey. to me they are men in the 50's and 60's.

Raymond is better. I know it's from the same era but it has a slightly more funky ring to it. Ray is okay. ish. Smile

Anna is lovely, classic, bit unoriginal but at least it's elegant and timeless. ditto Helen but Helen is a bit bland and boring and not as pretty as Anna.

RedCheckedTablecloth · 10/04/2015 02:57

I feel as if I have lost 40 years.

Ray? Jeff?

They are retro names for a cat.

Lewaney3 · 10/04/2015 03:01

Ray- middle of the road.
Jeff- dislike as for some reason it makes me think of all old men names.
Daniel- love!! But DNs name so I'm bias.

Anna - like
Helen- middle of the road.
Smile

sumoweeble · 10/04/2015 03:09

I love Daniel- one of my sons is called Daniel.

Anna is a good name. Palindromic names are often great, I think.

Ray is awful. Jeffrey pretty bad too. And Helen is a name I've never warmed to, despite knowing only very nice ones.

diggerdigsdogs · 10/04/2015 03:24

I'm in my late 20s and I'm one of these names. I hate it. It sounds like someone's aunt.

KoalaDownUnder · 10/04/2015 03:39

I don't like any of them except Anna, tbh.

Helena is lovely, but not Helen. Not sure why.

The boys' names are a big NO, especially Jeff and Ray! Louis is a fab name, you can do better...

nooka · 10/04/2015 03:41

I'm an early 70s child so they are all very familiar names to me! Louis on the other hand seems much more on trend. Daniel I think is still relatively common so probably 'goes' with Louis best, and Anna is obviously likely to be popular with Frozen.

I too prefer Helena to Helen, and Geoffrey to Jeffrey. I think all your choices except Ray are fairly solid/traditional and should be unremarkable. Ray I think might come back as an 'old man's name' but probably not for 20 years or so when uncle Rays become granddads.

Guin1 · 10/04/2015 04:57

Daniel - like. To me, it's one of those timeless, classless Biblical names. I like Danielle for a girl too.
Jeffrey - like, but prefer Geoffrey, more 'historic' somehow, maybe due to Chaucer.
Ray - not keen. May get nn 'gay Ray' etc.

Anna - like, simple but pretty.
Helen - not keen, but don't know why.

plummyjam · 10/04/2015 08:22

I really like Jeffrey! I have a good friend by that name he's very cool.

lottiegarbanzo · 10/04/2015 08:42

Geoffrey from Rainbow! Or Jeffrey Archer.

No, Jeffrey is pretty bad. It's not a classic at all. It's a one-time faddy name that won't be revived or last. Like Gillian.

Look at all those granny-chic names now, only some have been revived. You don't meet many Gerties or Ethels.

Ray is such an old man name I'd find it hard to imagine it as anything else. It makes me think of synthetic materials - beige slacks, with a wide brown-patterned tie. With most names, when you actually meet a person, rather than thinking about the name in abstract, it's fine and other associations diminish. I'm really not sure about that with Ray, or Jeffrey.

Little Ray of sunshine!

ragged · 10/04/2015 09:39

Ray has always been & always will be cool to me. Sugar Ray Leonard, Ray Brown, Raymond Chandler, etc.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 10/04/2015 09:47

Love Daniel and Anna Smile

SwedishEdith · 10/04/2015 09:49

I love Ray. Jeff - could be great/could be awful, could go either way.

The rest are good solid names
