Jemima, Nancy?

These are our 2 favourite names for a girl, I really can't decide. DH favours Nancy and I really don't know. Any other suggestions?

or - Florence, Sylvia, Violet - I've heard all of them as middle or sibling names with Nancy

I prefer Nancy.

The racial overtones of 'Aunt Jemima' put me off that name. Even though we're not in America.

I know too many Florences already.

I really hadn't appreciated the racial overtones for Jemima, never occurred to me. Thought more of Jemima Puddleduck or Jemima Goldsmith/Khan to be honest.

Violet, now there's a thought.

I have two Nancys in my group of 10 Brownies.

I thought about Jemima for our DD but DH said "Puddleduck, no".

I love Nancy and Jemima. They're on our list too. I think Nancy is just ahead, but I'm still not sure if I can get over the Cameron connection. Especially in election year.

Violet isn't in the same league and I suspect will be very popular in a year or two, whereas I think Nancy and Jemima will stay out of the top 50. If that sort of thing bothers you

I love Jemima. Not keen on Nancy.

I know someone who called his daughters Jemima and Rebecca - he genuinely didn't realise what he's done till people started pointing it out far too late!

I like both names and they both have lovely meanings, if this is important to you.
Nancy means Grace
Jemima means Dove.

If i had to pick I think I would choose Nancy :)

Love Nancy as N Mitford such a cool, smart, funny person to be named after. The Cameron thing makes it a bit less cool though. Perhaps one of the other Mitford names is ready for a comeback - Pamela or Deborah? not Diana or Unity though.

Hellolemonade: Jemima & Rebecca (although it's actually Rebeccah) are the Puddleduck sisters in Beatrix Potter. (We've been reading it to DD1 a lot lately!)

There's a thought - Beatrix is a pretty cool name. Would love to have used it but already have a Beatrice in the family.
