Love Rowan. Don't like Declan.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 01/04/2015 21:31

Rowan is a wonderful name. Declan... No.

cashewnutty · 01/04/2015 21:35

The only Rowan's i know are girls. Not keen on Declan.

anothernumberone · 01/04/2015 21:36

Like Declan not keen on Rowan

Allalonenow · 01/04/2015 21:36

Declan is just fab, but not keen on Rowan.

Only1scoop · 01/04/2015 21:36

Declan

CoveredInWit · 01/04/2015 21:37

I like Rowan. Though I haven't met a Declan in ages. Could be due a comeback.

scarletforya · 01/04/2015 21:38

Declan is terrible. It's a name for a dull man. It's the male equivalent of Maureen or something like that. Rowan is really nice.

sweetpeame · 01/04/2015 21:43

Wow, they're two very different types of name! Don't like Rowan at all and especially not for a boy. It does seem to be getting quite popular now though so guess lots of people don't share my opinion!! The youngest Declan I know is in his mid-30's now so it's not a very "modern" name but also not a classic or grandad-chic name either... To be honest I wouldn't go with either of them.

rockinrobintweet · 01/04/2015 21:52

i like Declan, nn Dec I think is sweet. I would consider this for my list but DH doesn't like the association with Ant and Dec (he's a fussy pup is my DH!!)

I know a Rowan (he's 4) and it really suits him. i don't think i would ever consider it for myself though.

other 'D' names you might like:
Douglas (Dougie)
Duncan

or 'R' names:
Riley
Rupert (I think this name is lovely!)
Robert (Robbie is sweet)

I am so stuck, starting to panic now because I don't love any name and we're due in 3 weeks.
Thanks for your comments.

I like Declan.

Rowan is OK, but prefer it for a girl.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 01/04/2015 22:14

What about
Dylan
Luke
Tiernan
Joshua

Archer26 · 01/04/2015 22:22

Love rowan. My friend has a two year old boy called rowan. It's unusual without being too out there.

Not keen on Declan. But I'm from the ant and dec generation!

VivaLeBeaver · 01/04/2015 22:26

I thought Rowan was a girls name.

Don't like Declan.

ProbablyMe · 01/04/2015 22:28

Love Rowan. Our DS was called Rowan.

EatingChocEggsByMyself · 01/04/2015 22:30

Do not like Rowan, especially for a boy.

I quite like Declan.

ashesandfire · 01/04/2015 22:43

I'm not keen on either. I do like Rowan for a girl though.

TempsPerdu · 01/04/2015 23:04

Love Rowan, but prefer it for a girl (it's still more common for boys though - one of the few genuinely unisex names I think). Not a fan of Declan at all I'm afraid!

squoosh · 01/04/2015 23:25

Declan was a very popular name for boys born in Dublin in the 70's. They're usually known as Decco. They'd probably beat up a Rowan 'for having a girlie name'.

(Decco's words, not mine)

D0nnaO · 02/04/2015 05:23

We're having a Rowan (boy) due in 32 days Smile

it can be used for a boy or girl, I know of a female Rowen spelt with an e rather than an a.

charlJ · 02/04/2015 15:16

Our youngest (atm) is Rowan, he's our only boy and we love the name. It can be used for either a girl or a boy but I think it's actually an old Celtic boys name originally. We're expecting another girl this time so I'm really glad we choose it instead of something more traditional

aoife24 · 02/04/2015 18:39

Declan. I'm an ElvisCostello fanSmile
