Hi everyone,
Can I ask for your opinions on the name Boadicea please?

I ran it past my folks at the weekend and they were quite shocked that we were thinking of this name...not the reaction I was expecting!

Do you like it? What is your instant reaction to it? I like the idea of giving my daughter a strong, individual name but not if it is going to have people sniggering behind my back!

Really appreciate your opinions :)

its a friend's dogs name Confused.

GingerCuddleMonster · 27/03/2015 11:22

sorry posted too soon, I like it but I think the child will have to explain it a lot.

Nolim · 27/03/2015 11:24

Dont like it. Sorry.

TywysogesGymraeg · 27/03/2015 11:24

Are you really serious?

anyway, she wasn't called Boadicea, she was called Boudica

manicinsomniac · 27/03/2015 11:25

I really, really wouldn't.

I don't think it's moved over into the modern selection of names AT ALL.

Pookamoo · 27/03/2015 11:26

I think pronunciation will be the tricky thing.

Bow-a-de-sea-a?
Boo-dick-a?

Also, I know a traction engine by that name! Grin

However, I do like it as a name for a strong-willed little woman. Would she be "Boo" (or "Bow") as a nickname?

maplebaconchips · 27/03/2015 11:26

Yikes. It sound so try-hard.

BreacaBoudica · 27/03/2015 11:28

Boudica is the way forward ;)

TaurielTest · 27/03/2015 11:30

My instant reaction is: Wasn't that Mrs Overall's first name, in Acorn Antiques?

rubyflipper · 27/03/2015 11:33

DH was desperate to call DD Boudicca.

He lost - and we chose something more classic - but the name would suit DD. Grin

Branleuse · 27/03/2015 11:38

I wish id called DD Boudicca. It would have totally suited her

Not boadicea though, as weve known it was Boudicca for at least 25/30 years now

daytripper50 · 27/03/2015 11:42

Is this an actual joke thread?

GladysTheGolem · 27/03/2015 11:46

It's a terrible name, it would work on a celeb baby (marking of a not great name usually).

Boudicca is a lot to live up to!

I have a ridiculous first name and it's a bore explaining, spelling, pronouncing it all the time

TRexingInAsda · 27/03/2015 11:51

She will find it impossible to live up to. And idiots will taunt her about getting a boob out. I can imagine employers rolling their eyes on reading her job applications.

The name is great, and the thought behind it lovely, but unfortunately the reality of the society we live in is that it's not good enough for that name to work well for someone imo.

squoosh · 27/03/2015 12:17

It's way too big a name for a person to carry. Would be like calling someone Genghis or Cleopatra.

I'm afraid I'd definitely snigger behind your back and roll my eyes too.

wesH · 27/03/2015 12:35

Did you ever see the vicar of dibley episode where dawn french's character says her real name is actually Boadicea and everybody laughs at her, and she goes by a totally different name because she can't stand having a name like "Boadicea"? Yeah.

glittertits · 27/03/2015 13:23

LOVE IT.

But everybody will laugh at you - and this comes from someone who was slated for thinking about using Artemis this week.

NerrSnerr · 27/03/2015 13:26

I'm not keen. Sorry.

thisadhdmum · 27/03/2015 13:33

It's not an individual name though. It's the name of AN individual that's so linked to that one person that no one else would ever be able to carry it off. You're naming a baby, not the queen of the Iceni.

Sophronia · 27/03/2015 13:37

I know a young Boudicca, her parents call her Boudi for short.

Vagndidit · 27/03/2015 13:38

It's at the top of our list too... although for future family pet names. Sorry, OP. Blush

lemonyone · 27/03/2015 13:38

It's the 'bare-breasted warrior' connotations I'd be a bit nervous about.

And the idea of a bare-breasted warrior bank clerk in her 40s sitting at the local Natwest called "Boadicea" is just hilarious. I would never have been pretty cheesed off to have been given that name. I think the only people who could pull that name off… actually, no, I can't think of anyone.

Sorry, but there is 'out there' and then there is 'a bit cruel'.

TywysogesGymraeg · 27/03/2015 13:39

Oooh! Ghengis! that's a nice name! Grin

Grantaire · 27/03/2015 13:46

I quite like it if you spell and pronounce it correctly. I also love Artemis.

But then my dd is named after a tank and ds a ninja turtle so you shouldn't listen to me...

Salmotrutta · 27/03/2015 13:49

Is your DD called Churchill Grantaire Grin
