Triplet names!

PandoraFree · 25/03/2015 11:03

So me and my DH think we have come up with the names for our triplet girls! The names we have chosen are...

Aria Evie Free
Elsie Orla Free
Isla Edi Free

As you can tell we really like short names that are vowel heavy. We wanted them to sound good together but not too similar. I picked out Elsie, DH chose Isla and we came up with Aria together. And all middle names are in honour of deceased grandmas and great-grandmas; Evelyn, Orlagh and Edith. We chose to shorten them because we didn't want them to be exactly the same.

So, as I said, we think these are the names! What do you think? Can I get some opinions please?

I think all the vowels clash and they are confusingly similar...sorry! I think the full length middle names work better too or even as first names.

tinymeteor · 25/03/2015 11:11

I originally read that as one of the triplets being called Free Grin

Aria and Isla are similar when you say them out loud, but all nice names and none of them is drawing the short straw. Different initials which is good. Personally I'd give the full names for the middle ones but that's just a matter of individual preference. Congratulations, and good luck!

I think the middle set does not go together. Granny, Irish, hippy.
The other sets are better. Aria Free Edi would be my fave.

7to25 · 25/03/2015 11:15

Sorry, I too thought free was a name, not just tbc

crapfatbanana · 25/03/2015 11:17

You have Elsie, Edi, Evie, Aria, Orla and Isla - all good names but they don't work well together and will get muddled.

How about finding longer variations of the first names - eg

Arianne Edith
Elisabeth or Elsbeth (my daughter is Elspeth) Orla
Isla Evelyn

You could then call them by the short forms - Aria, Elsie and Isla.

manicinsomniac · 25/03/2015 11:20

I assumed Free was the surname?

I really like them. Lovely names. And the first and middles won't be said together too often so don't think it matters if the vowels interrupt the flow a bit.

PandoraFree · 25/03/2015 11:21

Just to clarify, 'Free' is our surname :)

Thanks for the opinions!

As for the middle names. I don't think they'd really get used that often (I never use mine) so it would be more like Aria Free, Elsie Free and Isla Free.

It's kind of amazing you're having triplets with that name! The Free Girls (three girls!) sounds like a children's adventure story waiting to happen

BreeVDKamp · 25/03/2015 11:29

WOW that's a lot of vowels!

But you know that.

Aria, Elsie and Isla. I think they sound good together. They definitely match, if that's what you want!

PoisonPension · 25/03/2015 11:32

I like the full version for the second names.

PandoraFree · 25/03/2015 11:32

tinymeteor you wouldn't believe the amount of times people say that to me! I love it though :)

I agree that Aria and Isla do sound similar. What about Orla, Isla and Elsie.
The grandma's names are actually really nice, why not just use them and a strong non vowel middle name? Because it's an awful lot of a e i o. Just being honest.
I love Isla, it's beautiful. So Isla-Edi, Orla and Evie and do different middle names for Orla and Evie ?? Maybe.

shitebag · 25/03/2015 11:40

I like Elsie and Island but for some reason every time I see Aria on here I'm never 100% sure how to pronounce it, is it Aria like Maria or Ariah like Mariah?

Either way I'm not keen and would maybe go for something like Arlo instead then they all end on a different sound if that makes sense.

shitebag · 25/03/2015 11:42

Isla not Island, that would be a "unique" name :o

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 25/03/2015 15:16

I think they all sound great Smile

Congratulations!

imkeepingeverythingcrossed · 25/03/2015 17:42

I too think they sound lovely. As for middles names they look and sound nice both shortened versions or full length. Smile Congratulations x

sosix · 25/03/2015 17:48

They are nice names but too similar. Its going to hard enough with everyone getting them mixed up without samie names.

Plus in years to come they will be very confused about who you are calling.

I think they're too confusingly similar. IMO when naming multiples you should try to come up with three names that compliment each other, but that give each child some individuality. Unless I was a family member I'd constantly get the names muddled up, which is not only annoying for you as a parent, but its embarrassing for the muddler!

As CrapFatBanana says:

Isla Evelyn

You could then call them by the short forms - Aria, Elsie and Isla.

She's got it right!

Takedeux · 25/03/2015 22:29

I think Orla and Isla are too similar, and Aria and Isla, and Isla and Orla. Imagine it shouted across a noisy playground.

I'd go for
Aria or Isla Evelyn, Imo you can't use both for two sisters

Elizabeth Orlagh, known as Elsie, but can grow into Elizabeth

? Edith, or Edith ?. Better not two first names starting with E I think

OutragedFromLeeds · 25/03/2015 23:28

I think they're all a bit too samey. I understand you like short, vowel heavy names, but sometimes less is more. Six short, vowel heavy names is just too much imo. Calling them in for dinner will be a nightmare!

I like Isla. Elsie is nice as a nn, but I'd go for something more grown-up as a full name. I don't like Aria so that would be the one I'd drop/relegate to a middle name.

I like all the middle names. Orla and Edi are lovely. Evie is a bit 'nothingy', I prefer Evelyn.

petitcouchon · 25/03/2015 23:44

Gorgeous names, but think full length middle names would flow better. They are beautiful names in themselves, why shorten? Congrats on your 'free' girls though (love that pp!)

Sophronia · 25/03/2015 23:55

I'd change Elsie to Elsa - Aria, Elsa and Isla
