Love Barnaby but...

Our surname begins with B and ends in y! 2 syllables. Would this be completely ridiculous?

Others we sort of like are Jude, Theo, Zac, but none as much as Barnaby / Barney. Any other suggestions of similar names we may like if this one is ruled out?

Like "Barnaby Binty" sort of thing? Not that "binty" is a name! I think it won't really be a bad thing...it's distinctive but that's up to you!

I love names like this. I knew a Molly McCarthy once and thought she had the best name ever.

pinkie87 · 18/03/2015 21:35

Yes like barnaby binty but obviously not that! Haha! I guess it's distinctive, but I would worry he'd be laughed at/not taken seriously!

I'm glad you both don't think it's a terrible idea though, you've given me a bit of hope. Grin

Please do it!!

Ds was SO nearly a barnaby, but I too am blessed with a b surname, and I chickened out at the last minute. I love the name I chose instead (henry) but I will ways hold a torch for barnaby and I know if I ever have another boy (single parent so not likely!) then that's what I'll choose. Do it!! It's a fabulous name Smile

imnotproud · 18/03/2015 21:50

Do it! Say the full name lots until it's really familiar. Don't regret not choosing it x

Sophronia · 18/03/2015 23:28

How about Barnabas B - y instead?

pinkie87 · 19/03/2015 08:05

I have thought about it Sophronia but I really prefer Barnaby. It is an option though. Thanks everyone, you have me feel much better!

I love Barnaby. If I had had a ds then this would have been top choice. I don't think it matters about your surname at all. BB are great initials.

manicinsomniac · 23/03/2015 15:59

I think it depends on the surname.

For example,
I think Barnaby Bailey sounds silly
but Barnaby Brightly sounds fine

I suppose it's a case of whether the surname has a Ba start like Barnaby or a different sound (Br, Bl, Be, Bo ...)
