I love this name but it has been in the top few boys names for years. Are there millions and millions in every class?

Also other than Jacob and Jackson what can it be short for?

Traditionally, it's a NN for John.

Despite being top of the polls for so long, I know only a couple per school year (at primary).

(Never having quite grown up myself, it does make me think: 'What do you call a man with a car on his head?'..... I'll get my coat)

wildpoppy · 16/03/2015 21:55

I forgot that about John. I like the name John but cannot use for family reasons and also wouldn"t call John to be known as Jack. Love the joke though. Now thinking of Doug and Cliff...

At my DC's s primary school (180 pupils) there are I think no more than 3 Jacks so not huge numbers. There are no Jacks in either of my DC's classes.

It uses to be a nn for John I think but most Jacks these days are Jack on the birth certificate

I love it, one of my favourite names.

Sophronia · 16/03/2015 22:35

I love it, it's one of my favourites too. I only know one young one who is around 7, the other one I know is 25.

Falconwolf101 · 17/03/2015 10:52

Ds and I thought about it...
Jacks
Jacko
J.A
Johnny
Jimmy
Jackson
Jask
Yeah, kinda funny XD

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 17/03/2015 11:11

It can be short for Jonathan

It's a great name imo. I think people can worry too much about their child's name being "unique".

fredfredsausagehead1 · 17/03/2015 11:20

Adore the name Jack!

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 17/03/2015 11:24

I love it and have called my ds that. But we spell it Jacques just to make it a bit different (clinging onto very tentative French connections lol )

verelab · 17/03/2015 20:00

Only know three under 5. Many more Oscars, Maxs and Finns around. Think the popularity of Jack may be quite region-specific? Maybe lots more up north?

Lovely name btw!

Marcipex · 17/03/2015 22:50

I don't know any pre school age Jacks, there are a lot of older ones of course.

Current babies seem to mostly be Harry, Oscar, Finn, Connor.

WanderingTrolley1 · 17/03/2015 22:53

Love the name Jack.

Thegreatunslept · 17/03/2015 22:56

I love the name its a classic.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 17/03/2015 23:25

There is one in both DS and DDs classes. It is very common but DD has 3 Oliver's in her class so it could be worse.

Know quite a few Jacksons and have heard of some Jaxons too.

mrstowers · 17/03/2015 23:52

We are drowning in little boys called Jack here.

BlueBananas · 17/03/2015 23:59

I love the name Jack but if I called I in a playground around here every little boy would turn around
DS is 5 and there are 4 in his class (and 5 Charlie's it gets very confusing!)
In DD's nursery/reception class there are 7 (but about 70 kids)

MaraThonbar · 18/03/2015 12:26

The thing is, it's been popular for so long (15 yrs+) that there is a whole generation of Jacks. I teach five classes in secondary school and each one has at least two Jacks. One class has four. Certainly avoid it if you have a very common surname; I know at least four Jack Smiths.

MaudeLebowski · 21/03/2015 14:02

When my DCs were at school in the 90s, there were about 3/4 Jacks per class.

One to avoid with a common surname, for sure.
