Friendly names

I've been thinking about what the names I like have in common and have concluded that my favourite names are the ones that sound like friendly, kind, people.

Of course what you consider a "friendly" name depends on experience, but I would be interested to hear what others consider to be friendly names..

Interesting question, hmm.
Obviously anyone can be friendly no matter what the name, but I suppose these ones ring friendly for me.

Girls;
Grace
Annie
Chloe
Catherine
Daisy
Amy
Georgina
Jessica
Poppy
Evie
Hannah
Megan
Molly
Bethany

Boys;
Max
Joe
Billy
Jacob
Oliver
William
Alfie
Noah
Arthur

Is it weird that personally I wouldn't choose any of those names?! Shock Other than Max

Lucy and Sam popped in to my mind!

ch1134 · 12/03/2015 21:52

Ben is friendly.

Surely you're just going to get lists of the friendly people that individual posters have known.

But, fwiw, I suppose I think of nick-namey type names as being friendly as they suggest a certain level of informality and closeness:

Girls:
Abbie, Amy, Annie, Ali, Becky, Bryony, Billie, Charlie, Connie, Cassie, Callie, Carly, Casey, Chloe, Daisy, Darcey, Danni, Ellie, Evie, Effie, Elsie, Esme, Edie, Frankie, Gracie, Gabbi, Halle, Hayley, Heidi, Holly, Hannah, Izzy, Jessie, Juliet, Jodie, Katie, Lily, Lucy, Leah, Lydia, Lisa, Maisie, Maddie, Nikki, Natalie, Phoebe, Poppy, Rosie, Sarah, Sophie, Sadie, Tilly, Vivienne, Zoe.

Boys:
Alfie, Archie, Adam, Bobby, Charlie, Dominic, Dylan, Felix, Harry, Harvey, Harley, Jonty, Jamie, Jack, Jake, Nicky, Robbie, Sammy, Timmy, Tom, Vinnie, William, Zach

Manic - you might be right, although the friendliest name I can think of is Sophie and the only Sophie I've ever known well (at school) was a bitch. The friendliest person I know is called Rachel, but I don't see that as a friendly name at all..

Off the top of my head, I've always thought of Laura as a friendly name. I don't know why!

caughtinthemoment · 12/03/2015 22:34

Caspar Grin

TempsPerdu · 12/03/2015 23:02

Henry
Toby
Rory
Edward
Robin
Matthew
Ben
Barnaby

Emily
Alice
Tess
Merryn
Martha
Verity
Lucy
Rosie
Molly
Lucy

Not all names I'd choose personally, but to me these have a warm, friendly sound. I always think -y and -n endings sound friendly!

TempsPerdu · 12/03/2015 23:03

Whoops - Lucy obviously sounded so friendly I included it twice!

gallicgirl · 13/03/2015 10:06

Every Ben or Benji I know is very friendly.

Amy is a friendly name.

Sophronia · 13/03/2015 11:03

Beth
Joanna

Sam
Joe

akorda · 13/03/2015 13:14

Yes, agree that names ending in "y" sounds friendly e.g.:
Lucy
Sally
Polly

or names with "short" a sounds as first vowel

eg
Marina (as opposed to Mary or Mara)
Nancy
Karen
Catherine

Also Tessa is a nice friendly name!

Daisy and Poppy are friendly too because of their associations with bright, cheerful, "informal" flowers.
As are Clover and Marigold

The same doesn't apply to Iris or Ivy!

CitronVert · 13/03/2015 13:23

I think nursery rhyme names sound friendly (I.e names from nursery rhymes)

So Jenny, Polly, Sally, Jack, Tom etc.

MaudeLebowski · 13/03/2015 13:24

Sam is the ultimate friendly name!
