Hi all. One year ago my brother chose my favourite name as the middle name for his baby girl. Now I'm pg I really want to use that name for the first name if we have a daughter. If it was my niece's first name I definitely wouldn't use it, but do you think it's ok as it's just her second name? I love the name so much!

My niece's middle name was on our shortlist for my daughter. I spoke to sister beforehand about it to see if she minded and she said it wouldn't bother her at all.

We didn't end up using it but my DH was pushing to use it as a middle name at one point. But I decided that we didn't love it enough to use as first name then I'd rather not use it at all as it was also my niece's middle name.

Also, my first name is also my cousin's middle name. Can't imagine that my mum was that bothered abouut her brother using my name for his daughter's middle name. They still speak in any case!

My ex-husband used the name that we had chosen for our son (had he been a girl), for the daughter he had with his partner after me. I've never said anything to this woman, they've since split up, but I always thought it was a weird thing to do.

In answer to your question OP. Go for it, no-one owns a name totally contradicts self GrinGrin
