Ok so our surname is 'Ogilvie' so although we like Olivia, we wouldn't choose it and also some other 'ie' names or whatever don't quite go although we don't rule them out as whole.

We currently have a 'Freya' so looking for names which 'go' to an extent (i.e. I like Flynn, but is it too much with Freya?). We don't know the gender and have around 8 wks to go!

My current list (with hubby's opinions noted by each on my phone haha!) are:

Carter
Jude (hubby not keen particularly)
Cohen (is it awkward with surname?)
Georgia (was one our our 'three girls names' last time and still like it but not sure if I 'love' it)
Callie/Calleigh (was also one of the 3 last time, the third being Freya!)
Anya (a mummy friend has an 'anya' but she is 5 and don't think the mum would mind)
Lucas
Imogen
Flynn (too much with Freya?)
Maddie (maybe short for Madeline/Madison-i'm not sold on this one)
Jenna (bit more traditional but never hear of any!)
Hunter?
Nathan/Nate

Sorry it's all a bit mixed there! But feedback and suggestions much appreciated!! :) Thanks.

Out of your boys names I prefer Lucas or Flynn which I think is fine with Freya. Don't like Cohen or Hunter at all.

For girls I like Anya but don't think it goes with Freya because the last two letters are the same. So I would go for Georgia or Jenna.

matchingmoll · 05/03/2015 17:30

Nathan and Anya are my favourites. Lucas, Flynn and Georgia are fine. Cohen and Hunter are not good at all. How about Ada, Anna, Archer, Isaac, Elliott?

lovemummyhood · 05/03/2015 17:32

Not a fan of Ada, Anna, Archer is ok but probably not, Isaac not up my street and know an Elliot already but do like it.

Carter - very American but I quite like it. For a boy I presume?
Jude - not especially keen
Cohen - it's ok. A little awkward with surname but not terribly
Georgia - quite like it but much prefer Georgina
Callie/Calleigh - like it
Anya - really like it
Lucas - like it
Imogen - like it
Flynn - really like it but yeah, think it's too much with Freya
Maddie - lovely as a short for Madeleine or Madison but wouldn't use it on its own
Jenna - it's ok
Hunter - quite like it. Again, sounds very American
Nathan/Nate - really don't like Nathan but do love Nathaniel for some reason.

they're a VERY mixed bag so it's hard to suggest others. Ummm ...

In a Carter/Cohen/Hunter vibe -
Austin, Spencer, Oakley, Logan, Morgan, West, Grayson, Parker, Bailey, Riley

In a Jude/Lucas/Flynn vibe -
Aaron, Aidan, Brennan, Caleb, Christian, Dylan, Finley, Isaac, Micah, Noah, Reuben, Zach

In a Georgia/Imogen/Maddie vibe -
Anna, Amy, Bryony, Charlotte, Chloe, Emily, Emma, Flora, Hannah, Isabel, Jessica, Katie, Lucy, Natasha, Phoebe, Rebecca, Rosie, Victoria, Zara

In an Anya/Callie vibe -
Aria, Ayla, Alexis, Ariel, Ariana, Bonnie, Bella, Ciara, Carys, Connie, Cassidy, Darcey, Dana, Erin, Erica, Effie, Etta, Grace, Heidi, Halle, Iris, Ivy, Juliet, Josie, Layla, Livia, Lacey, Mia, Mya, Nia, Nyah, Orla, Pippa, Rosa, Rhiannon, Sadie, Stella, Sylvie, Sasha, Thea, Verity, Willow, Xanthe

In a Jenna vibe -
April, Amber, Claire, Chloe, Danielle, Fiona, Hayley, Jade, Jasmine, Kate, Kayleigh, Lauren, Leah, Melissa, Michelle, Nicole, Nicola, Paige, Rachel, Sarah, Samantha, Stephanie, Tiffany, Zoe

ScaryChicken · 05/03/2015 17:58

Of your girl names I like
Georgia
Jenna
Callie

For boys I like Nate and Lucas

Sophronia · 05/03/2015 20:14

I like Jenna and Lucas.

Fizzyplonk · 05/03/2015 20:23

I like Georgia, Anya, Lucas and Flynn.

How about Astrid, Livia, Clara, Delphine 'Delphi'
Heath, Lars, Rowan, Jared, Rafe

Leeds2 · 05/03/2015 21:28

I like Georgia, Anya and Imogen. In that order.

I don't like any of your boys' names, I'm afraid. If I had to choose, I would go for Flynn.

EeB00 · 05/03/2015 22:37

I think Georgia and Anya flow best with your surname, but Freya and Anya are a it samey with the -ya ending, so I'd go for Georgia. Imogen ogilvie is a bit of a mouthful to say, and callie ogilvie sounds like a tongue twister!

Flynn is a bit too close to Freya. Of the ones you've listed, I like Jude best. I don't like the name Cohen, but the flow sounds nice. how about
Jonny
Otis
Vaughan
Lance
Peter
Abe
Drew
Ewan
Beau
Huxley

Thanks for all the replies so far. Trying to reply individually but bit tricky on my phone! It is a pretty mixed bag if names and I do find it trickier when considering the full name! I would plan to have a middle name too once baby arrives and we see what the gender is and choose a first name. I like names that are a little different but not like super unusual/weird spellings/difficult to pronounce I guess. Hence the inclusion of some Americany ones I guess (e.g. Callie I think we first heard on CSI). We both quite like Carter, I do like more 'usual' names for boys like Cameron or Ellis (really quite like Ellis actually) but hubby difficult to please too! Leah we like and was suggested recently but our nephew just got engaged to a Leah (who I believe pronounces it 'lay-ah' so that would be confusing and we do see them as they are local to us). I like Alexa/Alexis but that is our niece's name, also quite like Maxine but our nephew is Max so again probably can't go for that!! Haha. It's so difficult. With DD1 we had Harrison for a boys name (no others) and we didn't really 'love' it. Having a look through suggestions made here! :)

Oh and Freya's middle name is Charlotte if that helps. We did discuss it as a first name once but I wasn't keen on any shortenings. Once she was born and hubby had decided on Freya we then browsed for middle names and decided quite quickly on that.

Strong names work well, Elizabeth is a good middle, firsts perhaps Henrietta, Frances, Monica, Helen, Susan, Karenza, Cassandra, and Mark, Hector and Luke.

MillyMollyMama · 06/03/2015 00:50

Does anyone call a baby Susan anymore? I went to school with loads, but that was soooo long ago. I like Nathan with your surname. Also Imogen would get my vote. I chose fairly unusual names for my DDs, I actively dislike American names and am not too keen on surnames used as first names. It's confusing. Bailey Ogilvie sounds dreadful! Carter Ogilvie isn't much better! Sorry! I would have used Lyndon or Haydon if I had had a boy. And Readman as it is a family name - yes - it is a Christian name! My list of girls names was huge.... We found it very hard to choose. Jenna became really popular in the 70's because she was a character in a sci fi series - Blake's 7 I think.

Iwasbornin1993 · 06/03/2015 02:24

I think Flynn goes lovely with Freya ??

rockinrobintweet · 06/03/2015 21:00

Anya and Hunter and my favs!

haleandhearty · 06/03/2015 21:54

I love Jenna- such a nice sound to it, and not at all common.
Don't mind Georgia. Like Imogen.
Really dislike Anya I'm afraid - reminds me of potatoes?!

Love Nate (Nathaniel) and Jude for boys

What about Leila if you like Leah? Or Eli/Elijah if you like Ellis?

Other suggestions: Sadie, Kessia, Harper, Genevieve, Tess? Mallory? (Quite "in" in America); Megan; Tegan?

HearTheThunderRoar · 07/03/2015 00:42

Nate/Nathan, Carter, Flynn and Anya are lovely names!

BlueStarsAtNight · 07/03/2015 04:08

With your surname being so vowel-heavy I'd tend to go for something that ends in a hard sound to make it flow well.

Flynn sounds good but I think is too close to Freya.
Jude or Nathan also sound good, (not Nathaniel though as the 'l' ending is too much with your surname).
I'm not a fan of Hunter or Carter and I think they run into the surname a bit.
Ellis is nice.
How about Carson, Jensen, Franklin?

For girls, I think I would again avoid 'a' endings as too similar to Freya, and 'ee' sounding endings as they sound odd with your surname.

Imogen is ok, though I know a lot of them.
How about: Harriet, Bethan, Grace, Juliet, Rachel, Erin

LaceyLee · 07/03/2015 06:44

I like Lucas for boys definitely as it flows best with surname. Think you need to steer clear of vowels and r endings which run together. For girls, applying those rules I don't think any of your choices work but
how about
Katherine
Clementine
Juliet
Scarlett
Florence
Marianne
