Norah?

DH and I had the idea of calling DD Norah for sentimental reasons. I like it and think that it is pretty, but know that my parents and my in laws would be totally bemused by what they would view as an old ladies name. Is it too soon to use Norah?

Love it. I know a few Noras in their 20s.

MaloryArcher · 04/03/2015 12:48

Love Nora.

Don't like the unnecessary 'h'. Makes it much less pretty.

Rosieliveson · 04/03/2015 13:14

It's a lovely name. Lots of older name like Elsie, Edith and Maggie are coming back into use so I don't think it would seem too 'out there'
I agree that it's prettier without the h

Guin1 · 04/03/2015 13:58

I like it too, but prefer with the 'h' - Norah.

LollyLondon · 04/03/2015 13:59

Really like it!

SunshineAndShadows · 04/03/2015 14:00

know several little ones - don't think its that unusual. Nora Jones made it mainstream

ScaryChicken · 04/03/2015 15:37

I like it and don't actually think of it as an "old lady name" (maybe due to Norah Jones)

Prefer with the h (more sophisticated??) but it's nice either way.

Groovester · 04/03/2015 15:42

Love it.

CunningCat · 04/03/2015 15:45

I think it is sweet, but the only thing is at school, kids with head lice were referred to as 'nitty nora' and for me that has stuck!

blardyfeck · 04/03/2015 15:50

Love Norah, with the h though

PannaDoll · 04/03/2015 16:00

My kid has an old lady name and so do most of her little gang of friends. They sound like a vaudeville troupe when they are together.

I quite like Norah and am with the 'pro h' camp :-)

LarrytheCucumber · 04/03/2015 16:30

NOOO. The only one I know hates it and Norah Bone has dogged her all her life.

WhyHasTheGinGone · 04/03/2015 16:55

Love Nora without the h. With, not so much. Norah does feel...older to me.

BreeVDKamp · 04/03/2015 17:04

Really like it, it's on our list! Think it's elegant and not little-girly. Prefer it with an h.

loislines · 04/03/2015 17:46

Love it. Prefer with the h but either is lovely. I would have liked DD to be called Norah but my neice is called something that rhymes with it and I think my mum would've been too confused!

lindsay982 · 05/03/2015 21:40

Oooh, I like it...don't really have a preference about the 'h'. Might be another one for my list - DP will likely veto it!

mooth · 05/03/2015 21:43

Hate it. Awful name, sorry.

pilates · 05/03/2015 21:58

Just no.

Nora Batty springs to mind.

rockinrobintweet · 05/03/2015 22:19

I think it's lovely!

DramaAlpaca · 05/03/2015 22:33

I don't like it at all, sorry, but then I'm probably close to your parents' vintage.

GreatAuntDinah · 06/03/2015 10:21

Hideous. Soz.

PannaDoll · 06/03/2015 11:27

It's Ravi Shankar's stunning daughter Norah Jones to me so I think it's a gorgeous choice.

rallytog1 · 06/03/2015 20:11

Beautiful and lovely. I may have used it myself Wink

But with no 'h'.

eatyourveg · 06/03/2015 20:31

Norah Batty is the first thing I thought of too.
