Loving the name......

Eliza BUT have a niece called Ellie (Elle for short) and obviously want to avoid that as a nickname, so a friend today suggested Elizia with nn Izzi or Lizzie which we both really like. Wasn't sure Elizia was a name but after googling it there is at least one other but the fact it's a little bit different, relatively obvious to spell and pronounce but not too different is starting to grow on us. Like Elizabeth and Isabelle too but sadly the former doesn't go with our surname at all and the latter is too popular round here so they're off our short list. Opinions on Elizia or alternatively nicknames for Eliza that aren't Elle/Ellie related much appreciated. Thanks.

I think people might think its Eliza spelt wrongly? To me, it's also a clunky name - doesn't flow nicely.

Nn - Liza is lovely.

Or what about Elissa?

Very popular lately this name. All the Elizas I know are 'Liza'

Eliza is lovely, Elizia is not! I think you can still use your preferred nicknames with Eliza anyway. Elizabeth is also lovely in its own right.

I wouldn't worry about the similarity. My DD has the same name stem as her cousin and it took me ages to even realise!

Hadn't spotted Elizia was a serious idea, I thought it was a typo.

Elizia is just awful. Sorry.

NanaNina · 01/03/2015 23:58

Oh there are just soooo many Ellies and Ellie-Mae, and Isabellas (shortened to Izzy or Bella) If you really like Lizzie why not just have that for her name.

OutragedFromLeeds · 02/03/2015 01:21

Eliza is nice. Elizia is terrible.

Eliza could be Liz, Lizzie, Liza, Izzy, Zaza (if you want something a bit unusual). Also you can just call her Eliza if you like, she doesn't have to have a nickname.

GettingFiggyWithIt · 02/03/2015 01:59

Alisa? (a-lee-zuh)

LikeABadSethRogenMovie · 02/03/2015 02:06

All the Eliza's I know are known as Liza too. But all the Eliza's I know are teenagers.

TheNewStatesman · 02/03/2015 02:33

Elizia is really odd, sorry. And she will spend her life correcting people.

If you like Lizzie as a nickname, how about one of these?

Or these.

I knew an Elysia and an Alize (with a forward accent on the e, French name pronounced ah leez eh). I didn't think either were weird but not sure about elizia, sounds like Alicia gone wrong.

Shellios1 · 02/03/2015 06:57

Ok thanks, she will probably just be Eliza then :-)

I don't like lizzie so would want izzy anyways. which can still be short for Eliza. Elizia is too weird for me

MsQueenie22 · 07/03/2015 09:04

Eliza with nn Lizzie works.

GingerLDN · 07/03/2015 10:02

Nickname Iza? It's an old name but I quite like it.
