It screams 'I read a few headlines about books last week and am jumping on the bandwagon'.

Very tryingtoohardtolookclever.

Weird

MissYamabuki · 27/02/2015 05:00

What madwoman said. Also in ny mind I only hear it said with an American accent

Blahia · 27/02/2015 05:33

Cool :)

Flossiechops · 27/02/2015 05:41

Wasn't it a posh mans name on Downton Abbey this last series? Not particularly keen tbh.

Rhubarbgarden · 27/02/2015 07:09

Too long and fussy. It's a no from me.

Plateofcrumbs · 27/02/2015 08:59

I'm also with madwoman I'm afraid. Too Cuckoo's Nest for me

Plateofcrumbs · 27/02/2015 09:01

Shit I mean too Mockingbirdy obviously! Getting my 'English GCSE set texts with birds in the title' confused.

poppydaisy · 27/02/2015 14:20

I love it and the Mockingbird connection is a very nice one imo - great character, Atticus!

shakemysilliesout · 27/02/2015 14:23

Try hard I'm afraid

SlightlyJaded · 27/02/2015 14:24

I know an Atticus. Atti fir short. Lovely but getting more popular (if if that matters to you)

Gummibaer · 27/02/2015 15:59

Trying hard to what? I don't get this..?! I think most parents try very hard to find a name they love, one that isn't already too widely used, one that sounds good with their surname etc.?

I think Atticus is a fantastic name - strong, cool, not overused, classic, easy to pronounce/spell and a great literary association! What's not to like and, mor importantly, what is try hard about this?

VainVulva · 27/02/2015 17:10

Love it! Totally agree with Gummi's sentiments!!

silveroldie2 · 27/02/2015 18:23

Weird

Notso · 27/02/2015 18:40

I really like it. I only know of one.

Viviennemary · 27/02/2015 18:42

Beyond dire.

Nishky · 27/02/2015 18:45

Love it- my DH vetoed Scout for our dd!!!!

juneau · 27/02/2015 18:45

I love it, but I do think its a bit wanky and pretentious.

shakemysilliesout · 27/02/2015 20:19

What do I mean by try hard?

It feels like trying to be different/unique because I have never heard it outside mockingbird.

It's feels quite trying hard to be literary because it's a name so closely associated with only one person/ book.

Names like Jeremy (jem) mentioned above feel more like a subtle nod to the character/ book as there are lots more other Jeremys.

StayGoldPonyBoy · 27/02/2015 20:23

DH loves it. He loves the book and wants Atticus for a boy. I do think it's cool but it sounds awful with our surname, and I do agree it's a bit 'try hard' to be honest. Jem is on our boys list as a compromise.

shakemysilliesout · 27/02/2015 20:27

Are we going to see a revival of the name Jeremy do we think??

florascotia · 27/02/2015 20:31

Nothing wrong with the name at all, but I'm afraid I just think of the rather mocking/inquisitive Sunday Times column. It's been running a very long time ... .

Babayaggatheboneylegged · 28/02/2015 16:44

It's trying SO HARD to be cool it's a bit like when politicians try to show they're down with the kidz and talk about what music they like and invariably say something like 'Coldplay'

Very very try hard

Welshwabbit · 28/02/2015 20:44

I know two. I think it is getting popular in London.
