Are they everywhere? And what other boys names might I like if I like this?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I have a 4 year old one. I've never met another, but I have met 2 younger Alex's that are just Alex.

poppydaisy · 26/02/2015 10:50

We know quite a lot of male and female Alexes.

IWannaHoldYourHand · 26/02/2015 11:07

When I said we've never met another, I meant under 5, that goes by Alexander.

Sophronia · 26/02/2015 11:23

I love it with Alec as a nickname.

TaurielTest · 26/02/2015 11:26

Lovely name, I might well have chosen it for one of the DSs if it didn't go horribly with my surname...
I know two, one usually uses the full form but also sometimes Alex, and the other is a Xander.

ProbablyMe · 26/02/2015 11:27

I have a 14 year old Alexander (known as Alex) and have only come across one other during all his time as primary school etc.

Morgan · 26/02/2015 11:28

I have a 13 year old one and there's been a couple of others but it many . Still love it as a name .

Lancelottie · 26/02/2015 11:30

DS claims there are 5 Alexes/Alexas/Alexanders in his class. Mind you. DD has three Maisies in hers and I've never met another one anywhere.

fattymcfatfat · 26/02/2015 11:47

my DS is alex. (6) ive never met another

ByTheWishingWell · 26/02/2015 11:50

I haven't met one since high school. I love the name, and am still annoyed that DP ruled it out!

TempsPerdu · 26/02/2015 14:22

I really like Alexander (although it's my brother's name, so I'm slightly biased!). I'm a teacher, and while I've taught a steady stream of Alexanders, it's far from being one of the most common names I've come across. Certainly not on the scale of Thomas/Joshua/Jack, where you risk having several in a class. Obviously all the similar girls' forms mean that there are plenty of Alexes about though!

I know a two-year-old Alexander whose brother is Sebastian.

Nicholas (my parents' other choice for my brother)
Tobias
William
Nathaniel
Christopher
Xavier
Edward
Magnus

my DH is Alex. have taught one in my teaching career so I wouldn't say it's too popular. and it's an excellent name :)

OutragedFromLeeds · 28/02/2015 01:44

It must depend on area because there are loads where I am. I'm a nanny and there was a time when out of a group of 8 nannies I was the only one who didn't look after an Alex or Alexander! They did vary in age from a few months up to 9 years though.

We used to go to a playgroup where there were 5 Alexander's, 2 Ava's and 2 Eva's. The 'hello' song was a nightmare.

At school there is 1 or 2 in each of my DC's class.

It's a lovely name though and pretty timeless.

Other names in the same vein;

Thomas
William
Edward
Jonathan
Matthew
Samuel

LarrytheCucumber · 28/02/2015 07:08

There are loads here, and it comes in the same bracket as Joshua (always in trouble).

AntiquityIsOld · 28/02/2015 09:35

Not common around here especially not for little ones. But if you love a name use it. There are bunch of kids around the same age as ds2 with his name, makes no difference.

EmpressMatilda · 28/02/2015 15:30

Lovely, timeless name. I want to use it but my DH isn't keen. I know 2 people called Alexander. One is 36, the other is about 9. As I said, timeless.

TheMumatron · 01/03/2015 09:38

Love the name Alexander, but I too have previously been put off by how popular it is on the Yearly stats; however, I very rarely come across one :-/

If we have another boy (we have two), I think we'll most likely end up using it as I do think if you like a name, it's best just to go with it!
