I was going with Phoebe.
Then I said Agatha out loud a few times and actually quite like it too.
Anna is okay.
I'm not fond of Sylvia.

RozTheSchnoz · 25/02/2015 18:37

I like Phoebe Smile

Agatha.

Agatha

Woozlebear · 25/02/2015 18:49

Anna or phoebe

EightFiftySix · 25/02/2015 18:54

Sylvia, I have one and we call her Sylvie and Sylvia interchangeably. I love the meaning and it's not too common, but easily recognisable. It's in line with the Olivia, Julia, Victoria, Eva sounding names and also with the Rosie, Katie, Evie set. I like the modest dignity it conveys with a wee touch of glamour Smile.

Sylvia with Sylvie as a nickname!

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 25/02/2015 19:31

Why not just go with Sylvie? that would be my first choice, followed by Anna, Phoebe and discounting Agatha.

rosepetalsoup · 25/02/2015 20:29

Because I think it's a bit weaker than Sylvia, and it'd be nice for her to have the choice. After all she's not going to be my cute little girl all her life yes she is !! She'll need gravitas as a nuclear physicist/civil rights guru etc.

WhyHasTheGinGone · 25/02/2015 20:45

Sylvia easily. But absolutely Taggie as a nn for Agatha.

twomorecats · 25/02/2015 21:03

Sylvia. It's on my list I think it's lovely.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 25/02/2015 21:14

Aah I see. I don't think of Sylvie as a weak kind of name, I think of the French.

rosepetalsoup · 25/02/2015 22:02

I know the Sylvie version and recently lived in a country where it was the main one but I just think as she will live in the UK at least until she is grown up, and we are not French, that I should pick the Sylvia version (if we call her that)! Also it (i.e. with an 'a' on the end) is the version in several other European countries. But I do love Sylvie and I would probably call her that day to day.

I like all of them except Agatha.

Phoebe

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 25/02/2015 22:30

I think we just have a different approach to naming. I'm not in tune with the idea that you name a child with a view to actually calling them a variant of the given name like Prince Henry always known as Harry. I'd simply have called him Harry if that's what we preferred.
Our DCs' nicknames are totally unrelated to their given names because they just evolved through friends, circumstance and character as they grew, which we like because it's more personal and natural (to us)

Have you come any closer to finding a name yet?

Pandora37 · 26/02/2015 07:11

I love Sylvie but don't like Sylvia for some reason. But it's a good name and as you say she can choose what to go by so I'd be tempted to go for that. I love Anna and Phoebe too. Please, anything but Agatha.

rosepetalsoup · 26/02/2015 08:08

Not at all Enrique, just as I'd call an Olivia 'Livvy'. I like the name Sylvia a lot, hence it being on my list of four favourites!!
