What name to register DD at school as?

Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this but didn't really know where to put it.

DD has never really been known by her proper first name but instead a nickname that came from DS not being able to say her name. DD is always called the nickname and now she's starting school I don't know if I should introduce her and register her with her nickname or proper name?

Our primary requested real name for the documents but put in registers the name the child is known by.

Real name for educational records.

School will send you questionnaire and you will get meet teacher interview before September to discuss 'known as'. V common.

Well it depends what her nickname is! If its something a bit silly like Nonnie or Bugsy or Baba, then I think I'd go with her real name as she may (as she gets older), be embarrassed that this fond family nickname is being used at school. My sister was always called Mouse at home, and I mean ALWAYS and by EVERYONE, but at school she was called by her real name and she was fine with that and accepted her dual identities readily.

OTOH, my DS is registered as his proper name, but on the form was a space with 'known as' and so we put his nickname, which also happens to be a proper name, because that's what we all call him and we hope he will never be known by his proper name, because its also his dad's (and grandad's) name and its too confusing. I only conceded that he be named his real name on his birth certificate on the understanding that he was never known as that!

You need to give her 'proper' name on the forms etc but make sure you state what she is known by and ask for that to be put in the register.

It happens more often than you'd think. I remember getting paper work for a child in my class and claiming I most certainly didn't have an X in my class. I didn't even realise he went by a different name. (It didn't cause any problems apart from me looking like a tit)
