Starting a new thread as I got lots of good responses on the last one but I wasn't clear enough!

I love one syllable names, which have a longer, more formal/ classic full name.

I love the following but can't have:

Anything ending 'an/en/on' so no: Fabien (Fab)
Anything with an ooo sound: Louis (Lou) Jude, Hugh
No 'at' either: Jonathon (Nat), Pat

I quite like:
Daniel (Dan) - not sure about the 'yul' sound
Douglas (Doug) - too Scottish?
Jeffrey (Jeff) - husband not sure
but not sure.

French/ Welsh/ Cornish associations good.

Any more ideas? Thanks

ginzillas · 13/02/2015 13:11

I love:
Nate (Nathaniel)
Zac (Zachary)
Jed (although long name Jedediah might be a bit much!)

ginzillas · 13/02/2015 13:12

Also Seb (Sebastian)

coldtoe · 13/02/2015 13:53

I love short names too, although I only like longer names on BC if they have the nickname in the longer name. So like Ben/Benjamin but not jim/James.
Ideas:
Sid/Sidney
Ned/ted/Edward
Jim/James
Bertie/Robert/Albert
Fred/Frederick/Alfred (or Alf)
Tom/Thomas
Tim/Timothy
Max/maxwell
Doug/Douglas
Gus/Angus/fergus
Pip/Phillip
Sam/Samuel

coldtoe · 13/02/2015 13:53

And
Jed/could it be short for Jared?

EeB00 · 13/02/2015 14:20

That's funny, I can't use names ending t/d/n or with 'Oo' sound. I like:

Cass
Gus
Cal
Mack (Cormac)

And bit out there but in love with...
Shep (Shepherd)
Moss (Amos /Moses)

If you like Pat but can't use it, you could use Patch (Patrick)

EeB00 · 13/02/2015 14:23

Forgot Sol!

Jojay · 13/02/2015 14:26

Dom - Dominic
Ed - Edward

RabbitSaysWoof · 13/02/2015 16:21

Doug has an "oo" sound though.

MsCoconut · 13/02/2015 16:31

I offer you:
Nick/Nicholas
Des/Desmond
Will/William
Ash/Asher

ginzillas · 13/02/2015 17:35

I think Jed could be short for Jared. I much prefer that option to Jedediah!

Lunastarfish · 13/02/2015 18:42

I'm not Scottish but if my unborn is a boy it is being called Douglas (Doug).

ClementineAndCordelia · 13/02/2015 22:03

Joss - Joseph / Josiah / Jonas

RufusTheReindeer · 13/02/2015 22:05

Thad....Thaddeus

skylark2 · 14/02/2015 11:29

How many names can your child possibly need? If you like that great long list you already posted, pick one of them!

GingerLDN · 14/02/2015 16:00

I've only Doug with oo sound if nn is Dougie

Seriouslyffs · 14/02/2015 16:05

Guy, be brave and name him Guido.
Sol is lovely
Chris/ Christopher

SwedishEdith · 14/02/2015 17:05

Ray/mond
Don/ald - or does this breach the 'on' ending? Nor sure if that only applies to the long form.
Jem or Jerm/Jeremy
Kit/Christopher
Kim/berley
Lin/dsay
Rick/Richard
Bob/Robert

MyBootsAreMuddy · 14/02/2015 18:42

Jeremy/Jeremiah - Jem
Isaac - Ike
Ezekiel - Zeke

ch1134 · 14/02/2015 18:51

Oh, I like Ray, Don, Len rather than Lin, and Zeke and Ike are aling the right lines!
The 'on' is more of an 'un' sound problem, as our last name ends in 'son'.
Thanks, great ideas!
