We are not finding out the sex of our baby, so we need names for both a girl and a boy. Our shortlists are:

Boy:
Tristan
Quentin

Girl:
Emily
Celeste

Love Quentin and Celeste!

The meaning of Tristan and the popularity of Emily put me off a little, but they're fine names otherwise.

CarlaVeloso · 12/02/2015 11:50

Love Tristan.

Jackieharris · 12/02/2015 12:32

Boy:
Tristan I like this but some people think it's a bit posh
Quentin I slightly prefer Quinn but I still like this

Girl:
Emily very popular, makes me think of the friends character
Celeste beautiful

SirChenjin · 12/02/2015 12:35

I like the girls names and Tristan - but Quentin is awful.

bigbluebump · 12/02/2015 12:55

We have a Quentin too so am biased but love his name Smile. Also really like your other choices! Good classic names imo.

MaudeLebowski · 12/02/2015 13:16

Tristan is dreadful.

Fattycow · 12/02/2015 22:57

I like Tristan for the classical Tristan and Isolde reference.
Quentin reminds me of Quentin Blake!
Celeste sounds really pretty and feminine.
I like Emily as well, not heard often over here. But I would worry about the spelling (non-UK here).

SauvignonSash · 13/02/2015 23:36

Quentin and Celeste are both gorgeous!

Rhubarbgarden · 14/02/2015 09:34

I love Tristan. I'm not keen on the others.

peggylane · 14/02/2015 10:03

Really like Tristan too and I don't think you'd have to worry about the meaning. Some people mistakenly believe it derives from the French or Latin roots for "sad" but I don't think that is the case:
Tristan or Tristram is a given name of Welsh origin. It originates from the Brythonic name Drust or Drustanus. It derives from a stem meaning "noise", seen in the modern Welsh noun trwst (plural trystau) and the verb trystio "to clatter".

Cornberry · 14/02/2015 13:45

Tristan and Celeste both on my shortlist! Love them x

GlitzAndGigglesx · 14/02/2015 13:49

I like Tristan but none of the others. Way too many Emma/Emily's about

Myfourblondies · 14/02/2015 14:22

Celeste is a contraceptive pill so, based on that, I prefer Emily. Not fussed either way on the boys names

Fattycow · 06/03/2015 09:49

What did you decide?

manicinsomniac · 06/03/2015 11:42

I quite like all of them except Tristan which I'm not that keen on.

I don't know any Quentins, know 1 Celeste, 2 Tristans and many many Emilys.

eatyourveg · 06/03/2015 20:38

I'm afraid the boys names are revolting- conjures up stuck up bully
The girls names however are beautiful - conjures up muslin petticoats and skipping through fields of wild flowers

curlii103 · 07/03/2015 07:39

I think it's cileste which is the pill and it's not a common one to use. I love celeste although it's mentioned a bit on these boards. like Tristan too but prefer travis
