What do you think of Griffen as a boy's name? We have both always loved it and with the crazy names kids have these days I don't see why itwould be so bad.

It was my number one choice…until my friend gave their dog the name Griffen. Sigh.

PiratePanda · 05/02/2015 06:06

As in Nick Griffin of the BNP? It's OK, but people might think you'd named your child after him. I wouldn't.

lazydog · 05/02/2015 06:07

Is that a typo or a deliberate quirky spelling of Griffin? I know two people who have that name (with about a 40yrs age difference between them) so it's probably not that unusual.

PiratePanda · 05/02/2015 06:08

OTOH I know a Griff and a Gryf, which is pretty cool - would that do?

lazydog · 05/02/2015 06:17

PiratePanda Are they actually their full names, as they sound like shortened forms/nicknames to me?

Nolim · 05/02/2015 06:42

Dont like it

bertiebogtrotter · 05/02/2015 06:45

Only if your surnames is Door/Dore :)

HamptonHumpty · 05/02/2015 06:47

I used to know a Griffith. He was very hairy and a little odd.

PiratePanda · 05/02/2015 07:02

I'm fairly sure Gryff is a name of its own, not short for anything. One's Norwegian, the other's Welsh. Might be short for Griffith?

FamiliesShareGerms · 05/02/2015 07:16

No

CrazyTights · 05/02/2015 07:21

Gryffin would be my choice.

SuburbanRhonda · 05/02/2015 07:24

I can see why you wouldn't want the spelling "Griffin", as it's too fantasy-genre reminiscent.

But it's a bit try-hard. Sorry.

LollyLondon · 05/02/2015 09:43

Mmm, I don't like it - sorry!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/02/2015 15:37

Don't like it, sorry.

Kniternator · 05/02/2015 15:43

DS1 is Gruffudd, pronounced Griffith. It really suits him.

ParsleyCake · 05/02/2015 22:12

Thanks for the opinions guys, spelling of it isn't decided but I would probably have an i or a y instead of e.

Makes me think of the Gruffalo. Also the BNP. Not good.

reuset · 06/02/2015 09:29

Griffin is slightly better. Only slightly.

It's the naming after a mythological creature that makes me think it's not the best idea for a name. And I'm tempted to pixie and offer Chimera and Sphinx as other similar suggestions Grin

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 06/02/2015 09:31

We liked Griffin, but had a girl first and when we had our son we realised if we named him Griffen our kids would be like one character from Family Guy Grin

We still love Griff, but had to shelve it.

BinarySolo · 06/02/2015 19:55

I really like it. Doesn't make me think of bnp at all, and it certainly won't have that connotation for his age group.

I'm surprised nobody's asked you if you have a welsh connection at that seems to be a popular question on this board when Celtic names are suggested!

Sunnysideup5883 · 06/02/2015 19:56

Griff is a great nn
