I teach boys so am finding this so hard.ds due in couple of months, we have a Margaret (Maggie) Roisin (irish dad) and a surname starting with s, so names ending is s are a bit odd.

Wouldn't mind an Irish name or middle name but I like traditional with a nice nickname or a few options for nicnames.

DH agrees with none of my suggestions:

Nathaniel (nate) My favourite, his middle name
Euan
Ethan
Niall

His suggestion? Ragnar. It's Icelandic, apparently. I have absolutely said no way.

How about Jonathan? It has a nod to Nathaniel, and plenty of nickname potential.

Or Hrothgar?

BlueChampagne · 31/01/2015 23:05

Ragnar is a good Old Norse name, but you'd need a good reason. Niall and Nathanial are goofed, but if you're looking for more, try

Aidan
Brendan
Conrad
Ciaran
Devlin
Neil

My favourite boy's Irish name is Jarlath. I also like Declan or Patrick.

Other names I like are Hugo, Rhodri, Alexander, Michael, David.

VixxFace · 31/01/2015 23:20

Caleb

Pico2 · 31/01/2015 23:23

Rowan?

Lanaandmaria2014 · 31/01/2015 23:25

Athalstan or Jake

misog2000 · 31/01/2015 23:27

Nathaniel was one of my choices (she turned out to be a girl!) but Sebastian was our favorite.

missmakesstuff · 01/02/2015 00:32

I do like Declan actually, forgot that one, also Rowan, although he's not so sure. Patrick I like but not paddy, he would end up as paddy at home.
Seb I like but not sure about alliteration.

He now says Nathaniel is the best of all of the worst....he's had a few beers tho. Maybe I just have to wait till baby is here and he's had a chance to wet his head, then just start using it!
he says he wants a crazy irish middle name if we have Nate though.
something unspellable and unpronouncable by your average person I tthink...Ffion or oisin I like most. (sorry, no idea how to do fada on phone!)

Is Nate too American sounding?

Just realised I have a repeat thread, silly phone!
Ffion, sorry, meant fionn, Irish boys name. Does it sound the same? Didn't know about the girls name! Would it be assumed as a girl's name if heard in Wales?

Like lots of those Irishkez

Hopefully some food for thought!

Rowan Smile

TywysogesGymraeg · 01/02/2015 18:15

William Hague's wife is called Ffion. No idea how to pronounce Fionn in Irish.

missmakesstuff · 02/02/2015 22:56

F-yon, pretty much, I think the stress is on the second bit.

I think I have won him over with Nathaniel (Nat) Fionn S surname..(two syllables)

I think it's ok? Any thoughts?
