Hubby and I cannot agree on a boys name. I don't LOVE any but this is current shortlist.

Suggestions welcome

Oscar, very nice sound name. My only concern would be is it too trendy? It has soared in popularity. Might it date like Isla?

Joey: sweet but a bit twee for me. Lovely with full name Joseph and nickname Joey.

Freddie I just don't like sorry.

TheNewStatesman · 22/01/2015 01:46

What she said. Oscar is nice enough but might sound dated--is that something that will bother you?

Joey and Freddie sound like nicknames, and as an adult man I wouldn't appreciate being called either of them.

Blahia · 22/01/2015 06:58

Freddie -but as a nick name. Alfred on the birth certificate (so many possibilities with that: Al, alf, Alfie, Fred, Freddie etc)

Violettatrump · 22/01/2015 07:00

Joey is fab.

Violettatrump · 22/01/2015 07:01

But it has to be short for something like Joseph or jonty or Jonathan

livsmum4 · 22/01/2015 07:42

Thanks I'm so fussy. I like the nn but don't like any real names. My child may be named 'baby' lol

The only one that I can see an adult using or being called is Oscar. The others are fine for children (Joey before 7 and Freddie before 12) who are likely to drop the eee sound at the end as they mature.

MyGastIsTinselled · 22/01/2015 07:48

We've got a 4 year old Freddie but he's Frederick on his birth certificate so has a few options as he gets older.

I like Oscar too but not keen on Joey.

LetticeKnollys · 22/01/2015 07:51

Joey, but a long version officially so that he doesn't feel out of place when he becomes prime minister.

FWIW, we liked the short version of our sons name and weren't that bothered about the long version, but after we decided on it it really grew on us.

pegster · 22/01/2015 07:51

I have a 3 year old Freddie but he is actually a Frederick & more & more often known as Fred.
I do like Oscar, not keen on Joey (it's a budgerigar name) but I like Joseph.

CPtart · 22/01/2015 08:03

Oscar - prefer this although lots about.
Freddie - dislike. Too many ie ending names about, sounds like an abbreviation.
Joey - no. It may have negative connotations for us kids of the '70's.

stripedtortoise · 22/01/2015 09:35

Joey but would have to be Joseph for me.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 22/01/2015 09:39

Joey

If it sounds too childish when he's older then he can become Joe.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 22/01/2015 09:39

Do you like Kit?

squoosh · 22/01/2015 12:31

Joey - eats sandwiches and lives with Chandler

Freddie - too babyish. A weak name for a grown man.

Oscar - my favourite from your list. Very popular at the moment but a good strong name from Irish mythology.

Chatty987 · 22/01/2015 19:17

Oscar and Freddie (short for Frederick which is lovely) are joint faves. Joey is okay but would be a nn for Joseph for me fwiw!

Violettatrump · 22/01/2015 23:34

Joey with full name Jonah

Violettatrump · 22/01/2015 23:35

Actually just calling him joe with the nn joey would work

Lazymummy2014 · 22/01/2015 23:36

Freddie with full name Frederick or Alfred.

Devora · 22/01/2015 23:37

Joey, short for Joseph, Joel, Jonah or Josiah.

Oscar and Freddie don't come close.

SnoringNorma · 23/01/2015 00:56

What Devora said!

YonicScrewdriver · 23/01/2015 01:24

Fred, NN Freddie

OrangesJuicyOranges · 23/01/2015 02:12

Joey - not keen. Joe - great.
Freddie - nope. Fred - completely love it.
Oscar - fine.
