I think is lovely, and of course there is a famous Manon Manon Carpenter

SunnyBaudelaire · 19/01/2015 18:23

"Manon? As in man on?"
no, as in Ma non, silly

CurlyRedHairfor2015ok · 19/01/2015 18:24

Really dislike it. It doesnt work in English imo. Sounds

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 19/01/2015 18:25

One of my best friends is called Manon (and yes, she's Welsh). Lovely name.

CurlyRedHairfor2015ok · 19/01/2015 18:26

I watched Manon de source too but it was a sad film. What about Emanuelle with Manelle for short.

SunnyBaudelaire · 19/01/2015 18:28

Emanuelle? No no no! or am I just a child of the 70s?

OnlyLovers · 19/01/2015 18:29

Love it. Don't think it matters if it's said in an English (or Welsh) accent as opposed to French.

As for teasing, children will find something to tease about ANY name.

SirVixofVixHall · 19/01/2015 18:32

I would say don't. Unless you are in Wales or France. (They are not the same name, just spelled the same). My dd is a Manon, we are a Welsh family in a very welsh speaking part of Wales and it isn't an uncommon name here. However many of my English friends call her by the French version, or as a pp said they shorten the O so that she is more Man'n. DH's cousin also comments that "Man on" is a football thing? So unless you live somewhere where it will be pronounced properly then choose something else would be my advice!

AvonCallingBarksdale · 19/01/2015 18:36

Emmanuelle Beart played Manon in the film and Jean de Florette, didn't she? Anyways... I think Manon is a lovely name.

Rhubarbgarden · 19/01/2015 18:38

Lovely.

stripedtortoise · 19/01/2015 18:53

Very pretty, but not in the cutesy way like so many names are....
It's really classy and elegant. Use it!

TidyDancer · 19/01/2015 19:17

I really like it but would never use it because it makes me think of The Craft (Manon is the devil-like spirit they try to evoke). I think one of the Chili Peppers had a DD with that name though.

How about Marin? It's prettier imo but is very similar.

BestIsWest · 19/01/2015 19:19

Yes I know a little Manon. It's lovely.

Theimpossiblegirl · 19/01/2015 19:21

One of my absolute favourite names.

sanfairyanne · 19/01/2015 19:28

as in the french? the mispronunciation would drive me insane. it is a really beautiful name tho

how is the welsh version pronounced?

sunshinemummy2012 · 19/01/2015 20:28

Thank you for all your comments it has only enthused my decision. Thanks sunnybaudelaire for keeping the optimism.

Never heard of it. It's totally dire. IMHO.

TranmereRover · 19/01/2015 20:33

well it's good enough for Damien Lewis and Helen McCrory!
It's a pretty name and most 80s kids will make he connection with Manon des Sources

HighwayDragon · 19/01/2015 20:41

Errr man-on and ma-non sound the same to me Confused

TurquoiseDress · 19/01/2015 21:33

Lovely beautiful simple name, I know a little French Manon Smile

hellokitty123 · 19/01/2015 22:32

Sounds and looks masculine to me.

Also hear no difference between Man-on and Ma-non...Confused

dannydyerismydad · 19/01/2015 22:34

I only know one. My stepmother. She's vile.

I'm sure it would be a pretty name if it didn't belong to her.

DaphneMoonCrane · 19/01/2015 22:40

DH's niece is called Manon. She's in her early 20s, beautiful and smart, with a hunky boyfriend.

She is neither French nor Welsh.

SirVixofVixHall · 19/01/2015 23:22

The French name doesn't sound the final N, it is closer to Man-o. The Welsh name is pronounced Ma-non. With slight emphasis on the a. Non is also a stand alone name in Wales. I love my little Manon and obv I like the name, but I do sometimes wish I had chosen differently. My other dd also has a short and simple name that somehow constantly gets mispronounced and mis-spelled and so I am rather weary of it now!

TurquoiseDress · 20/01/2015 06:36

Obviously a massive difference in pronunciation if said with a French account or a British accent.

Makes it sound like it's a different name I'd imagine.
