My name is Anneka (Ah nicka). It is unique and I like it but my brother quite quickly caught on calling me all sorts of knicker related jokes.

My surname is unusual too :)

Mine is Leanda (Lee-an-da) and I love it, get at least 2 comments a week saying what an unusual and nice/pretty name it is. It means lioness in Greek and is the female form of Leander

Zsazsabinks · 17/01/2015 22:59

Stephanie. It's OK and my friends, family and children's schoolfriends call me Stephy. Colleagues, less close friends and others call me Steph. It's OK, I probably wouldn't choose it for a baby now. Apparently I was supposed to be called Alice but the midwife who delivered me didn't like it so told my Mum to go for her second option!

MaelstromOfLunacy · 17/01/2015 23:02

Hannah. I love it - not sure why, it just fits. My mum wanted to call me Amy but Dad wouldn't agree. Like Amy but much prefer Hannah Smile

WhispersOfWickedness · 17/01/2015 23:04

Mine's Kate and I love it Grin I definitely would have considered it if I hadn't been named it Smile
The only downside is that Kates in American films tend to be stuck up best friends or older 'villains'Hmm

CompletelyIncompetent · 17/01/2015 23:06

Sarah
Dull but inoffensive.
Apparently I was almost called Roberta so I got off lightly..

Noodlenoods · 17/01/2015 23:59

Elizabeth
It's a classic with lots of potential for nicknames so yes I'd recommend.

Clueing4looks · 18/01/2015 00:22

I'm mid 30's and I've always disliked my name - Lucy - it's quite babyish and I got called loo-seat at school :(

I remember wanting a name necklace when I was about 12 and being really jealous of an 'Elizabeth' because her long name looked better than my short and stumpy one.

My dad wanted me to be called Rain though so I suppose I got the better name!

AnnaFender · 18/01/2015 00:27

Jennifer here. I just feel it's a bit dull and of it's time' (70s/80s), can't enter a room without meeting another one! Love the sound of the long version and love its cornish routes, but no one, and I mean no one, will call you by the long version! It will always be Jenny or Jen! Which seems a bit of a shame for me...so I guess, no, I don't recommend, but regretfully!

Notfastjustfurious · 18/01/2015 00:28

Clueing same name and same age! I like it though and don't think its babyish at all. It works well for all ages. Nobody ever called me loo seat though so that may have changed things.

I know a baby Lucy, a mid 20's one and a great aunt and it all works. My mum was originally going to name me Kelly but a friend used it first, I'm ok with that.

AnnaFender · 18/01/2015 00:29

So many typos!

Yesinamechanged · 18/01/2015 00:39

Rosarie. (Rose-AH-rie).
Drives me nuts. I'm called everything under the sun except Rosarie. I wouldn't recommend it.

WrappedInABlankie · 18/01/2015 00:45

Josephene Hmm not the typical Josephine.

No, no I wouldn't hate it with a passion it's shit. Everyone I know with the same name hates it too

Bellisperennis · 18/01/2015 00:56

Holly here - I love it!

I was going to be a Sarah which I think is lovely, but there are fewer Hollys my age so I'm glad I was given my name instead. I'd use it myself if it wasn't my name!

buffersandbumpers · 18/01/2015 01:10

Rosalind. Have grown to love it.

LedditGo · 18/01/2015 01:29

Michelle.

Hate it. Changing by deed poll.

Szeli · 18/01/2015 01:58

same as led love it. never been called it tho, going to start introducing myself by it after im married

i'm a bit younger than most with my name so i dont come across any my age which may be why i like it. how old are you led?

BabyX · 18/01/2015 02:06

Yes, I really like my name. I hardly knew any growing up but it's now quite popular, top 50 at least and very Mumsnet it seems!

Amanda. Apparently it's quite a 70s/80s name but I only ever met one other person with my name growing up. Only my nearest and dearest call me Mandy. I like it, but not when said with a US accent.

The two-year-old son of a good friend calls me Panda, so that's great too.

Suzanne, hated my name when I was younger but I love it now,
I get called sue,Suzy,suey,sooze
DP has always referred to me with my full name which I used to find unnerving when we first got together
Because I only got called my full name when I was in the shit

CPtart · 18/01/2015 07:59

Lindsay. No I don't recommend it. Seems like a little girls name not right on a grown woman, and everyone spells it wrong.

crackerjack00 · 18/01/2015 08:04

Sarah. Love it. Classic, and despite it being common when I was born, I don't know many others.

JapaneseMargaret · 18/01/2015 08:12

Isobel, hated it growing up because no-one else was called it and it was totally old lady and old fashioned. Now it's so over-used and considered to be too popular.

It's a very, very cyclical name - when it's in it's totally in, and when it's out, it's out with a bang.

I probably wouldn't recommend it. I really did not like it growing up, but I actually really like it now, because it sounds very current and not dated like many of the names most other women my age have.

Norfolkbumpkin · 18/01/2015 08:13

Lisa here. I love my name. A couple of years ago I met a mum at a postnatal group who'd called her dd Lisa, I thought it was so cool.
