For a boy (duh). Do you like it?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
myotherusernameisbetter · 17/01/2015 20:17

Elwood?

MildDrPepperAddiction · 17/01/2015 20:20

Please give him a proper name and then shorten it to woody. It may not work/he may not like it as an adult.

FlyingSpud · 17/01/2015 20:20

Elwood...

Not absolutely loving it but not hating it either.

We're also thinking of Finlay. I reckon that would be a much better option than Woody.

noitsbecky · 17/01/2015 20:21

The erection jokes will plague him.

Sparklingbrook · 17/01/2015 20:21

Mark Owen from Take That has a child called Elwood. Awful IMO.

MythicalKings · 17/01/2015 20:22

Elwood = Blues Brothers.

TeaAndALemonTart · 17/01/2015 20:22

Yeah, it's a stiffy.

myotherusernameisbetter · 17/01/2015 20:23

Findlay is better than Woody.

but just to add my son was known as Moose for many many years, it's not his name, it's nothing like his name - he just had a jumper with a Moose on it as a baby and it stuck.

emmelinelucas · 17/01/2015 20:23

I don't like it.
For purely personal reasons.
My maiden name was Wood.
"oy woody wots yer head made of-wood !"
kick kick batter.
Woodhead was a coommen surname in our area. They got the same.

AppleSnapple · 17/01/2015 20:26

Love love love it. I have a friend with 3 dc with some ...unusual... Names! She gave them a "normal" name as a first name (i.e. Sam, Ben etc) and the actual name as a middle name but they've only ever been known By their middle name. She argued that they can change to 1st name when they're grown up if they feel silly!!

I love woody- I say go for it- this friend, although her dc have names that would never have initially appealed to me, the 3 of them totally suit their names. I think you grow into what ever name you're guven and make it your own! Best of luck with your baby whatever you call him!

FlyingSpud · 17/01/2015 20:26

Oh man...I can't do it, can I? I'll cross it off the list.

OP posts:
emmelinelucas · 17/01/2015 20:27

I meant common.

AppleSnapple · 17/01/2015 20:29

Nooooo keep it on the list! Maybe he'll come out looking like he was born to be woody!

corgiology · 17/01/2015 20:34

Surely naming a child Dick is worse?

Thesimplethings · 17/01/2015 20:35

The first thing that came into my mind was how unfortunate if he got random erections as most boys do Grin

But dirty minds aside, I do like it but wouldn't call one of mine that. His pubescent years would be hell.

TeaAndALemonTart · 17/01/2015 20:43

My friend has a William and a Richard. She obsessed with penis names. I expect number three to be called Woody.

Willabywallaby · 17/01/2015 20:44

DS1 has a friend called Woody and there's another one a couple of years below in their school.

Notso · 17/01/2015 20:48

Arf at Woodland.
I'd like to throw Timberland into the mix as the 'proper' name. Think about it, no shortage of personalise clothing.

Finlay is ace.

FlyingSpud · 17/01/2015 20:50

ENOUGH WITH THE COCK REFERENCES!

Timberland Grin

ShadowSpiral · 17/01/2015 20:56

No. It's like a cartoon name. Or the nice but dim bartender from Cheers.

Incidentally, I used to work with a Richard who insisted on being called Dick. He wouldn't answer to anything else, although he had to put up with Richard on his e-mail address because that was his official name. Every time I had to speak to him, i would just be thinking "Why Dick? What's wrong with Richard?" Confused

BlueBrightBlue · 17/01/2015 21:51

Google" free BDM," there are a lot of unusual names uses in the 1800's, we are rather conservative by their standards.

BlueBrightBlue · 17/01/2015 21:55

I personally dislike, Milly, Sunny ,Lotttie, Archie, Evie, etc, ok as nicknames.
Just my personal take on names.

squoosh · 17/01/2015 22:00

I prefer Stiffy. It's more of a classic than Woody.

FlyingSpud · 18/01/2015 06:48

Blue I know a lot of people who share that opinion. It's not something I'm overly fussed about, but I get why people think that way.

One very good friend of mine caused a big family rift by giving her DS a 'nickname' for a name.

Woody definitely off the list now. I can't imagine a CEO or high court judge being called Woody Grin

SquirrelledAway · 18/01/2015 09:32

Reminds me of Woody from the Bay City Rollers - big hair and tartan flares.
