Well I had my heart absolutely set on Noah, a name I have loved for years except my partner now tells me he won't entertain the idea. His jobs means he meets lots of children and unfortunately one particular Noah has put him off the name!

So thanks to a friend of a friend I have discovered a new name and have got it kind of stuck in my head now! Its got a country feel to it, and that's very fitting for me!

The name is...... CODY.
So would you all please give me your honest opinions on this name.

Thanks.

I don't like it, sorry. Noah is much nicer - and has a much more classic 'feel' too.

BiancaDelRio · 17/01/2015 14:54

I don't like Cody.

BUT.....I don't really like Noah either. It's very insipid to my ear and has become hugely popular in the last few years which makes me think it will date quite badly.

pilates · 17/01/2015 14:57

Sorry really dislike Cody.

myotherusernameisbetter · 17/01/2015 15:46

I'd have put names like Theo, Oscar, Eli & Austin as having a similar vibe to Noah.

I'd put names like Tyler, Taylor etc as more like Cody, in fact I only know 2, 1 is a cat and the other is a girl.

It's not my taste but I'd be surprised that the two names were the taste of one person. I'd never imagine brothers (or siblings) as Noah and Cody iyswim?

Jackieharris · 17/01/2015 17:32

Cody is quite American so won't go down well on mn.

steviel · 17/01/2015 17:36

My friends dog is called Cody she says it is Australian, very popular there.
I thinkmyou have to remember that even if a name sounds cute for a baby it might not when they are older.

DramaAlpaca · 17/01/2015 17:38

I'm not keen on Cody, but it's better than Noah which sounds very insipid to me.

pregnantnursey89 · 18/01/2015 00:06

Jackieharris: I did kind of suspect from reading replies on many threads on here that Cody probably wouldn't go down too well on MN...... but I thought it was worth a try, I did hope that maybe someone out there would like the name a give me a positive response. But at the end of the day names are am individual thing, the world would be boring if we all liked the same names!

I don't really like it either, but, it's through 'personal taste' thing rather than for any good reason not to use it, like sometimes people post.
So if you both like it, then go for it - as you say, it would be boring (and very confusing) if we all chose the same 10 names, wouldn't it {smile]

swnewby · 18/01/2015 00:12

Cody is cute on little ones and cool as they grow. Noah is just cutesy. I'm a Cody fan.

dadtobe19 · 18/01/2015 01:30

I really like Cody. I think its a name that in the UK definitely is not one of the typical popular ones and may sound a little "Americanised"... (and maybe hence the lukewarm response you have had on here!!)

I think it's really quite modern and a stand out name for a kid of the generation itll be born in! We really like Smile

Szeli · 18/01/2015 01:54

i loved noah too but it got overused. cody is nice but the codys i know are girls i'm afraid

Racheyg · 18/01/2015 20:32

I like the name cody. I know to many people with boys called Noah. I really wanted the name Nate but we have now picked Jude. I also have an 18 month old son called Elis. Do you want something different?

professornangnang · 18/01/2015 20:35

I don’t like either. If you're going to go American like Cody, what about Hunter, Cole or Conrad.

Bowlersarm · 18/01/2015 20:41

I don't like Cody.

Noah is nice.

BikeRunSki · 18/01/2015 20:42

Noah was lovely until every other baby boy born in the last 4 or 5 years was called Noah.

Really don't like Cody.

Amos?
Seth?
Toby?

carbolicsoaprocked · 18/01/2015 22:28

Love Noah. I'm not a Cody fan I'm afraid. No particular reason, it's just personal taste, so if you both love it go for it, it's tough to find names you both love! How about Elijah, Elliot, Samuel, Caleb? I also second Nate (Nathan/Nathaniel) and Jude.

fattymcfatfat · 18/01/2015 22:35

I love nathan but have had to settle for adam for mine (if its a boy) and Elizabeth for a girl.
Im not a cody fan
Alex is a good name (my eldests name)
I also quite like harry and Freddie and Cameron

bluewisteria · 19/01/2015 13:41

All the Cody's I have met in the UK are girls Confused

Chillyegg · 19/01/2015 13:51

If I have a little boy I'm going to call it Noah but with the Arabic spelling of Nooh. I really like the name And has religious significance for us

blowinahoolie · 19/01/2015 17:01

Don't like Cody but I do like Noah.

Clueing4looks · 19/01/2015 17:23

Not a Cody fan, but then there's one in my kids school and he's a spiteful little thing, so could just be that. Noah is lovely, the ones I know of are all 7/8 so could possibly not be as 'common' in a few years when your DS starts school.

MumsyFoxy · 19/01/2015 17:25

Noah a lovely name! Cody nice too. How about Jesse?

BotBotticelli · 19/01/2015 19:14

I think Noah is a bit boring. There are hundreds around here.

LOVE Cody! I really like American sounding names. I think there's a bit of unsaid sneeriness about them on Mn and they're regarded as a bit 'chavvy'...I don't hold with this: I think a name is only as chavvy as the person called it...!

I work with a internationally respected scientist called Kendall, and a lawyer called Mackenzie. On neither women does the name sound remotely chav.

If you like the name go for it :-)
