How would you pronounce this name?

I have always thought it was pronounced one way until I heard it pronounced a way I'd never considered watching tv the other day

Not considering it, just curious!

Either Mar-see-uh or Marsha But either way is correct.

bigbluebump · 12/01/2015 15:32

I'd say Marsha, unless corrected.

squoosh · 12/01/2015 15:34

I'd pronounce it Marsha but would be unsurprised to be corrected by some to mar-see-a.

loislines · 12/01/2015 15:38

Mar-she-uh would be my instinct.

FunkyPeacock · 12/01/2015 15:47

The one I know is a Mar - see - ah

squoosh · 12/01/2015 15:53

Wasn't there one in Charlie Brown? She used to have to call the dictator Peppermint Patty 'Sir'.

shakemysilliesout · 12/01/2015 16:03

Marsha. Like the island st Lucia (loosha)

burgatroyd · 12/01/2015 16:05

Or Cassia/Casha

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 12/01/2015 16:05

Mar - see - uh

FunkyPeacock · 12/01/2015 16:10

Shakemysilliesout - I knew a Lucia (Scottish but unsure if that's relevant) and she was a Loo-chee-ah

IsadoraQuagmire · 12/01/2015 16:12

It's a bit like Alicia. Can be pronounced A-lee-see-ah, Al-lee-shee-ah,
A-leesha or Aliss-ee-ah. All correct.

UriGeller · 12/01/2015 16:13

The Marcia I know pronounces it Mar-Cee-a. hell of a cool woman, hell of a cool name, she also goes by the nn CeeCee which just puts the cherry on top imo.

Tattiesthroughthebree · 12/01/2015 16:13

I know two Marcias, both in their 50s, and they're both Mar-see-ah.

IsadoraQuagmire · 12/01/2015 16:14

Shake - Italian pronunciation of Lucia IS as you say. As far as I know the ISLAND is always pronounced St Loosha

BikeRunSki · 12/01/2015 16:17

A friend of mine has a Marcia. She had the intention of pronouncing it Mar Shea Ah. Everybody else in the whole world persisted in pronouncing it Marsha, and no amount of correcting them had any effect. By the baby's first birthday they had given up and started using the baby's middle name.

Timetoask · 12/01/2015 16:17

The Marcia I know is Mar-cee-a, she is horrible old fashioned woman. Gives me the creeps.

Whooshtheyweregone · 12/01/2015 16:21

I know an amazing woman called Mar-cee-uh. I've always thought the Marsha pronunciation is American.

RiverTam · 12/01/2015 16:24

Mar-see-uh. I always think Marsha is American, not sure why.

trottietrue · 12/01/2015 16:34

Marsha

Bellisperennis · 12/01/2015 16:48

I always thought it was Mar-see-uh so was surprised to hear Marsha - Cassia/Casha is also a revelation to me burgatroyd

And I thought I was a names swot..!

the first Marcia I knew was Mar-see-ah, the second was Marsha.

I think the first is far nicer.

Sophronia · 15/01/2015 11:50

I'd pronounce it Marsha.

marriednotdead · 15/01/2015 12:06

I have always known it to be Mar-see-ah. I've met several over the years as it's fairly popular in my generation, especially amongst the Afro-Carribean community.
I met a teenage one recently, this time South American Smile
