OR Sibyl...which is apparently a less commonly used name (although it looks a bit odd to me).

Thoughts?

Sybil. I adore this name. Sybil Buck was one of the coolest models ever. Always had this name on my list.

britishbakeoffblues · 11/01/2015 01:07

I mean this in the BEST way - my grandma was called Sybil (actually, it was spelt Sibyl as my great-grandad spelt it "wrong" on her birth certificate!) - she was an amazing lady and I would call my non-existent DD this name in a heartbeat. Envy

TheNewStatesman · 11/01/2015 07:39

I don't know--it just doesn't have a very nice sound to me. "Sibble."

TripleRocks · 11/01/2015 07:42

I like it.
My first thought was Fawlty Towers though

chrome100 · 11/01/2015 07:47

Ha ha. No.

Violettatrump · 11/01/2015 07:52

I think I like Cecil a bit more

baskingseals · 11/01/2015 07:53

I knew an inspirational Sybil, so it is yes from me.

TheTravellingLemon · 11/01/2015 07:55

I like it.

Violettatrump · 11/01/2015 07:56

Sorry meant Cecile. There's also Celeste and Cecily. Sylvia or Sylvie

Purpleflamingos · 11/01/2015 08:19

I loved Sybil in downton, does that help?

imjustahead · 11/01/2015 08:31

faulty towers

not for me

Sprinkfest · 11/01/2015 08:47

Spelling would be Sybil. It's a lovely name but I make a different association than Fawlty Towers or Dowton...

Sally Field and her many personalities, nearly 40 years ago

VainVulva · 11/01/2015 16:40

Really like it, reminds me of Downton, like the nn Sibbie also!

Zsazsabinks · 11/01/2015 16:47

Love it!

shakemysilliesout · 11/01/2015 20:56

Reminds me of cybil shepherd- big character! Seems fun though

Rhubarbgarden · 11/01/2015 21:17

Love it

BrightestAndBest · 11/01/2015 21:59

Sybil - I really like this as a name.

clary · 12/01/2015 00:49

I know a Sybil (she is 11) and I like it. It suits her as well - creative but not overly girly, knows her own mind.

Her mum used to get "Oh. Is that a family name?" a lot at first, but not so much now Grin

Yay4may · 12/01/2015 02:00

Love it think you could spell it either way

Glastokitty · 12/01/2015 02:34

Fawlty towers or multiple personality disorder. So its a big no from me.

burgatroyd · 12/01/2015 08:28

Sybilla is also lovely. I like Sybil.

Sprinkfest · 12/01/2015 17:09

I do like the name, Sally Field aside!

AuntieStella · 12/01/2015 17:12

As long as you don't go on to have a Basil, it should be OK.

But as Fawlty Towers shows no sign of leaving its position in the top few most-loved British sitcoms, that's the association a heck of a lot of people will make.

Greywackejones · 12/01/2015 17:12

Farty towels too here!

molesbreath · 12/01/2015 17:17

I know a Sybilla which I think is such a pretty name. I'd never heard it of it before
