My dh is Swedish. We decided we would call our dd to be a Scandi name because his family asked and I happen to love the culture and think their names are beautiful. She is due on April 6th.

I am very keen on Agnetha (keen ABBA fan here and also beautiful name)
Love Agnetha.
I also like Heidi and Seren. Any other ideas? Flowers Wink

I always liked Malin, Mette and Sanna. And knew a lovely woman called Liisa, but that might be an odd one for the UK.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 07/01/2015 16:27

I like Heidi and Astrid

squoosh · 07/01/2015 16:33

Nanna (Birk Larsen)
Sara (Lund)

scandichick · 07/01/2015 20:32

Lisen, maybe? I've never heard about Seren, but I know a few Scandinavian Heidis.

There is also:
Lina
Elise
Lovisa
Beata
Malena
Agnes
Agata

In case it makes any difference, Agneta (usually without h) is kind of an old woman's name at the moment - no doubt it's due a revival, so it may be young and cool again in a few decades.

There's lists and lists of popular names here (in Swedish): www.scb.se/sv_/Hitta-statistik/Statistik-efter-amne/Befolkning/Amnesovergripande-statistik/Namnstatistik/

(Swedes love their statistics...)

MishMooshAndMogwai · 07/01/2015 21:03

Oooo I love Astrid (as does dd thanks to how to train your dragon) but dp has vetoed it :(

My dd is Orla which is Irish but also apparently a Scandinavian version of Alex as in their shortening for Alexandra if that makes sense. It's a shortening rather than a name in its own right I think.
Either way I love it Grin

Not many of the names suggested are swedish, most seem danish and norweigian, and Seren is not scandinavian:) Sören is though but is a boys name.
The current trend for old style names is still going strong and my friends recent choices have been
Hilda
Hulda
Signe
Saga
Alva
Astrid
Tora
Tova
Liv
Agnes
Agnetha is a good choice as it is surely coming back into popularity!
Other names I like
Josefin
Jeanette
Lucia
Marianne
Carolin
Ylva
AnnaKarin
