Just to say, I'm not pregnant or ttc currently. I've just been thinking about the name Effy.
There was a character on skins with this name, and then I heard someone on the radio today with it too.

What could it be short for?

I was always under the impression that Effie (this spelling) was short for Elfrida.

Nyborg · 04/01/2015 18:06

I've also heard it used as a shortening of Josephine.

thegreylady · 06/01/2015 11:44

The little girl in dgs class is just Effy not short for anything but it could be short for Aoife (Eefa) I guess.

looki · 06/01/2015 19:35

I always thought it was short for Josephine. I'd choose some of the alternatives given in this thread first though!

mewkins · 06/01/2015 21:17

Yes elizabeth in Skins.
But I have know two in real life- botyh Greek and short for Efrionsini. It's a very common shortening in Greece I think.

Dukketeater · 10/01/2015 17:16

Elizabeth

longestlurkerever · 10/01/2015 18:16

Do you remember Heartbreak High? There was an Effie in that who was Greek but I don't know what it was short for. I always liked the name too. Greek names are great generally. I wonder if my very English dc could carry off Spiros?

longestlurkerever · 10/01/2015 18:17

Ah, crossed post with mewkins. Thank you.
