Sister for Emma

Our lovely DD is called Emma and we are struggling to find another we like quite as much. One contender is Beatrice but we are concerned about whether it goes well with Emma. We're not looking for a name that matches but would like it to sound nice with Emma. They both seem like timeless, classic names to me but Emma is much more common and there were loads when I was at school. I don't know a single Beatrice.

Please could you give me your thoughts - do the two names sound ok together? Your opinions could well be the deciding factor!

I like Beatrice.

What about Eleanor, Abigail or Catherine?

I think they sound lovely together. Both pretty, timeless names.

I have a dd called Emma and was planning to call dd2 Charlotte until it transpired "she" was actually a "he".

Beatrice is lovely too though. Also love Clara, Matilda, Sophie, Stella.

Beatrice will be called either Bea, or Beaty, or Trixie. If you prefer Trixie, go for Beatrix.

I love the name Emma. If I were in your shoes I might go for another Jane Austen name, probably Marianne.

Or Madeleine, which is classic, like Beatrice, but, to my ear, prettier.

Beatrice is not as uncommon as you think. I know a couple of little ones. I have to be honest, I don't like it. I see Beat Rice and I think it's open to dodgy pronunciation. Bee-triss/Beya-triss etc

I think they go well. Both classic.

Emma and Helen sound good to me, or what about Louise or Sarah. I love Emma, it was very popular when I was at school, as were the 3 names I've suggested. None of them are what you would call common nowadays and to my ear they all have a lovely ring to them and go well together. I'm not a lover of long names so Beatrice wouldn't be top of my own list, although the lovely little Beatrice I know is simply called Bea by everyone, including nursery.

I think any two names sound 'right' together when they come as a family. When you're used to it, it just works!
