So far I like:

Margo
Robin
Ruth
Kirsty

Which do you prefer and what else might I like?
Older brother is called Jimmy. Surname ends in a "ie" sound.

I like them all except Ruth and I think Kirsty goes best, then margo.

I like robin but when I say jimmy and... It's not working for me.

Ruth is a normal name that I dislike for unknown reason.

Sophronia · 19/12/2014 14:24

I like Margo or Ruth. I prefer Robin on a boy and Kirsty is a bit 80s.

psyandsoc · 19/12/2014 14:27

I prefer Ruth.

I like them all but in order of preference:

Robyn (spelt like this; Robin to me is a boys name)
Kirsty (though I prefer Kirsten)
Ruth
Margo

Other suggestions:
Rachel
Maggie
Christa
Kristina
Madeline
Rebecca
Martha
Roberta
Kellie
Matilda

There was a whole Mumsnet thread about 'Margaux' not long ago.
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/a2244556-Anna-Margaux
The general view was that Margaux is the name of a French red wine, not a girl's name. In French that is spelled 'Margot' and is short for Marguerite.

American supermodel Margot Hemingway was the first Margot to change her name to Margaux (in honour of the wine her parents said they had been drinking the night she was conceived). This was meant to be a witty pun, but, with hindsight, turned out to be tragic - since poor Margaux later suffered alcohol abuse (and many other) problems.

Thanks guys. I am leaning towards Kirsty. Its not 80's in Scotland. More traditional.

I like Robin (but I think it's a boy's name and would spell it Robyn for a girl) and Kirsty. Ruth is okay but I don't like Margot.

myotherusernameisbetter · 19/12/2014 21:52

I was going to say it wasn't 80s in Scotland but wasn't sure if you were in Scotland :).

If we'd had girls instead of boys we'd probably have had a Mairi and a Kirsty but my current favourite is probably Lorna.

wizzler · 19/12/2014 21:55

Ruth is lovely..
How about Claire ?

dashoflime · 19/12/2014 22:35

Claire was the name of my childhood archenemy Angry, so no. But good suggestion, wizzler

I love Robyn, unfortubately for me it doesn't go well with my DP surname.

I know a lot of Kirsty and Ruth - it seemed to be popular at my school but both pleasant names.

I'm not a fan of Margot

AnonyMust · 20/12/2014 09:25

Robyn. Wanted to spell my daughter's name Robin but husband says it was the boys' version. Didn't want her to go through life saying Robin with an 'i' or 'y'. So I went with something else that fit her personality.

LeoandBoosmum · 22/12/2014 00:06

I was just saying on another thread how much I like the name Jimmy and wish it'd make a comeback!

Robin is pretty. Like AnonyMust, I prefer it with an i, even for a gir. Also like Ruth.

I think, since you already have a Jimmy (which I think of as a 1950s name), something like Betty would be good.

LeoandBoosmum · 22/12/2014 00:08

Margo makes me think of Margo from The Good Life!

emeline · 22/12/2014 00:15

Very dislike the name Ruth. I always hear it as a dogs bark.

Robin is a good name, cute for a child and elegant for a woman.
